For our 43rd release, we're excited to introduce - Bachir Salloum for his debut appearance on Juicebox Music. Based in Dubai (UAE) since 2014, the Lebanese-born artist gathered immediate attention with solo signings on Guy Mantzur's 'Plattenbank', Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat' and memorable collaborations with fellow comrades - Z0ne+ and Memory (ARG). Bachir's musical diversity landed him a slot at the famed first edition of Guy J's 'We Are Lost' Festival back in 2018. With a style that ranges from Deep House to Progressive House, he hones in on his love of grooves and melodies and with that motto in mind, Bachir Salloum delivers a 2-tracker on our Indian label. With no time to waste, the title track "Of Time and Space" launches the EP in full swing through it's dark, rolling drive aimed for the peak-hours while "Illusions" reflects his quirky and hypnotic after-hours side.

Another artist making his debut appearance on the label is Villa Mercedes (Argentina) resident - Fabri Lopez. With recent releases on Tash's 'Movement Recordings', Max Freegrant's 'Freegrant Music' and Juan Pablo Torres' 'Clubsonica', Fabri Lopez's aims straight for the progressive house fanatics with a sound that ranges from the smooth and euphoric to aggressive and epic. We called him in to give Bachir Salloum's 'Of Time and Space' the latter treatment with a beefier low-end and a big chord-filled breakdown moment.

Bangalore (India) based artist - Weird Sounding Dude makes his much-awaited return to Juicebox Music after his massive 5-track 'Arcade' EP. Nearly a decade of productions under his belt and on a constant rising trajectory, Weird Sounding Dude cemented his presence in the industry with exemplary original releases, highlighted by signings on Nick Warren's 'Soundgarden' and Hernan Cattaneo's 'Sudbeat', as well as highly praised remixes for Dmitry Molosh and Ziger. For his remix of Bachir Salloum's "Of Time and Space", Weird Sounding Dude effortlessly twists the original elements while injecting his trademark components - smooth percussive work, spacey synths and bouncy grooves.

A familiar name within the underground house fraternity, Rafal Ligienza has been at the vanguard of his country's music scene through his Rafa'EL moniker. Operating out of his Wysoka home in north central Poland, Rafa'EL has been developing his innovative sound for nearly 15 years.

Making his debut on Usessions Records in 2013, the Polish star has subsequently been a regular on Particles, centred around a pair of original EPs in 2015's "Twin Flames" and 2019's "Floating Moments". Remixes for Rauschhaus, Mariner + Domingo and Juan Deminicis have shone a light on another side of Rafa'EL's production talent as he now returns with "Light the Shades". The title track flows with deliciously rolling groove and clicking percussive top line as a melancholic piano progression adds gravitas. Evolving with ease, a sultry synth line makes its intermittent presence felt, while a stripped back breakdown provides the perfect vehicle for melodic elements and spoken vocal sample to shine before a twinkling arpeggio opens up a moment of magic in the second half. "Overload" immediately hits hard with its strong beat and chunky rhythm, while a deep bassline and muted synth stabs play in syncopated fashion. Arpeggio and growling analogue synth add to the sonic collage as a symphony of melodic components converge in counterpoint heaven, culminating in a gated reverse sequence that heralds a drop for rhythm and groove to showcase dancefloor prowess in the latter stages.

Finding a home on Proton Music with such memorable outings as 2019's "Organik" and "Sunsweat" EPs, Imran Khan has also created a strong sonic identity on Particles with 2018's "Arrival", plus a clutch of remixes for the likes of Kamilo Sanclemente, Savvas and Chihaka, in February 2022. Returning to Particles, the Imran Khan remix brings a trademark depth to his reworking of "Light the Shadows". Enveloped in powerful rhythmic heft, a growling bassline and breathy effects pave the way for elements from the original to forge a new path, away from the melancholy of Rafa'EL's work, creating a tension-filled offering that revels in white-noise effects and hypnotic groove. Allowing the emotive keys and pads from "Light the Shadows" to shine during the breakdown, Imran Khan brings them sharply into focus alongside his deep groove-oriented and dynamically rhythmic offering.

An artist with over a century of production credits to his name, dating back to a 2018 debut for 3xA Music, Jorge Viana has continued to make a name for himself with music signed to the likes of Mango Alley, Freegrant Music and Dopamine White. From Rosario in the Sante Fe province, Jorge Viana continues to impress during a relatively short career thus far. Now the Argentinean artist makes his debut with an intricate rhythmic backdrop that captures listener interest through imaginative use of the central melodic found in "Overload". Creating a new central motif, familiar elements wax and wane with throughout the complex percussive backdrop. A powerful effects-fuelled breakdown opens up a new direction before melodic fragments filter into range in a glitched and dramatic zenith.

Sol Selectas welcomes back our Spanish friend Yamil for his first solo EP on the label, with 3 original tracks, and 3 stellar remixes.  Each song is a fusion of indigenous sounds with modern electronic beats, and we hear inspirations from Latin, Arabic, and Indian folkloric music.

The title track “La Flor Colorada” is a collaboration with Clemente, and features the vocals of legendary Panamanian folk singer Rosalinda de La Espada. The song fuses the the powerful vocals of Rosalinda with a bass heavy Afro groove, and twisted metallic percussion patterns. 

“Naidi” combines analog sequences with Indian vocals, creating a beautiful but edgy deep house tune, filled with emotion.  On the remix we welcome Portugal’s Xinobi to the label, and his interpretation strips back the vocal elements, while chopping up the original analog synth noises to create a strong tension-building track, which blurs the line between Indie Dance and Afro Tech. 

“Sanctuary” is smooth downtempo tune with a  Moroccan “Gnawa” influence accompanied by flutes and tribal percussions. On the remixes we welcome Angelos from Greece, who turns up the heat on “Sanctuary”,  and crafts a perfect Afro tribal remix of the original. Derun from Turkey also remix “Sanctuary”,  incorporating their signature percussive drums, and adding a beautiful breakdown which blasts off into psychedelic arpeggios and chants. 

The artwork by Helia Jamali takes us to a playful garden of red flowers and dreams.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With ‘Rebirth', Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists all across the world to bring these themes to life, the seventh and final iteration in this compilation series.

South African star Bruce Loko (Get Physical, Freerange) opens proceedings with the deep, melodious textures of Cyclone, whipping up the ethereal eye of the storm. Chapter 24 regular Kieran Apter is next, making good the tension with the impactful 6.10.21 Break. Such is the power of this track that it propels the listener into new sonic dimensions.

Kostakis (Get Physical, Katermukke) offers up Xerxes, which is equally big and conjures up the dusty, mysterious and impenetrable planes of the desert. Meanwhile, Acumen returns to the imprint in collaboration with Pontias. Shower for Hours is a pumping, techy number bound to get the dancefloor bouncing before opening out into a euphoric peak.

The compilation closes out with a high quality trio. Label favourite KatrinKa delivers the typically deep groove of ABAF. DJ Zombi (Beat Boutique) takes things further down into a dreamy and blissful space with Steph. The honour of closing out the final Seven Stories befalls Hope Recordings and Soundgarden legend Nick Warren and the talented Nicolas Rada, who revisit Anton Dhouran’s Valhalla Rising. Their Edition is fittingly deep, transportative and dramatic.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away one final time...

Anton Dhouran - Valhalla Rising {Nick Warren & Nicolas Rada Edition}

With Yolumuz, his second release on Lowbit Records, Tali Muss tastefully combines world instruments and ambitious sound design to create a unique musical mosaic.

On the title track, the musician stays faithful to his Azerbaijani roots, sitting at the crossroads of Western and Eastern influences. The DJ and producer, which has previously held the #1 spot on Beatport’s progressive house hype chart with his 2018 tune “Irreversible”, incorporates oriental drums to the track, which are complimented by the high-flown lead synth. This feeling of union amongst different origins is also accentuated by the interactions between the thick, omnipresent bassline and the joyful organic sounding flute.

On “Yalla” the artist, which has seen his work recognized by heavyweights such as Stan Kolev and Gareth Emery, crafts a hypnotizing melody which rides unto a rollercoaster of tension and release. The song is scattered with ascents and descents of different natures, most notably the long rise which sees the piece stripped and built back-up in a striking crescendo.

As for the remixes, Sonic Union and Hannes Wiehager team up to deliver their first common outing on Lowbit. The remix is a straightforward track with a constant high level of energy complemented by a weaving vocal sample and an evolving lead synth.

Finally, Highjacks, wrap up the release with a remix in tone with its musical identity. Coming off their successful “Venus” EP on Lowbit earlier this year, they construct aerial chords which caress the ears as the ravey bass supports the whole arrangement, proving once more that unlikely associations are a key to generate interesting emotions.
