At some point I took my workflow a little further by investing in gear and myself - becoming a Sound Recordist.

In Episode 4 of the Sebaudio | Think_Tank, we'll explore that transition a little, some of the gear I initially added to my loadout, and how I find this kind of work to be a great benefit; both creatively and health-wise. This is an episode for those looking to make a similar jump, or indeed looking to talk further with me about sound recording.

04 | Becoming a Sound Recordist

Continuing with the notion of starting out - what if you have a family? What if you're about to begin a family? How does it feel freelancing when these are the pillars you're working between?

In episode 3, we'll think about this a little. I can only comment on my (at time of writing), 11 months of mixing freelancing with family, but it's perspective that deserves sharing. Freelancing is a lifestyle choice that has to be respected to see any degree of success, large and small - and it's a commitment you sign up to before you know you've even signed.

We'll look at this a bit in this episode, let's think out loud.

03 | Freelancing and Family

Whether just starting out, or a seasoned veteran - Freelancing is packed full of challenge. Those challenges only amplify as you rise up a ladder, and increase your skillset. The heights are higher but you're better equipped.

In episode two of the Sebaudio | Think_Tank I talk a little about what Freelancing is to me? Its value, the opportunities it offers, and how empowering it can often feel. I'm certainly not claiming to know absolutely everything there is to know about becoming the worlds most decorated freelancer, but I have been in that field long enough to feel its effects, and be able to reflect on them - with direct experience.

Anyway, here's episode two - I'd love to hear your thoughts, and see how our experiences match or differ. It's all insight.

02 | What is Freelancing to Me?

We all love an origin story right? I wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider, or had a modern trilogy of films made by Chris Nolan - but I still had an origin, a pathway into the games, film, and music industries where I work.

This opening episode is about exactly that - my hope is that the story is relatable, and that inquisitive listeners might take something away from it. That's the goal.

I'll never forget those early memories of discovery, finding a talent and attempting to harness its use, and where I could take it. Following our narrative structure, we'll delve a little into how music and composition are more than what they appear at face-value.

05 | An Interpretation of Music

This is a short orchestral arrangement I produced, of the classic Sierra Online ident. I used Spitfire Symphonic Orchestra libraries to update the ident, and maintained a simple approach - but big in character and tone.

My work as a music designer, sound designer, and professional vocalist has been recognised worldwide whilst the clients I work with are some of the biggest in indie game development - with shipped titles across PS4, PSVita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.

I was lead audio producer on Games Workshop's 'Dark Future: Blood Red States' and Steve Jackson's 'Ogre', both with dedicated communities in their millions. I engineered all vocal recording sessions for the hit indie-smash, Bertram Fiddle (episode 1 & 2) whilst providing award winning work on the multi-honoured short film 'Vicious' from director Oliver Park.

Original music and sound for film has earned further nominations and awards from 'Tabloid Witch', 'Wildsound Film Festival', 'Hollywood Investigator', and Southern Shorts - picking up wins for original score and sound design in 'Vicious', and sound design again for the multi-award winning 'Living in Crime Alley' from acclaimed writer / director Rob Ayling.

Within Game Audio, I'm happy to work in-engine using both the UE4 and Unity platforms, reviewing assets, and making necessary amendments: improving upon the audio soundscape.

My sound is characterful and immersive - Avant-garde, Minimalism, Orchestral, and Electronica are all notable influences.
