It feels like we’ve all been trying to process the madness of life over the last 18 months or so. With incomes cut, careers paused and anxiety peaking at dangerous levels, it’s fair to say we’ve all been on edge – and still are. But we shouldn’t let worry stop us from staying true to ourselves!

It’s a sentiment Selecta J-Man and Rider Shafique perfectly communicate on their latest single “Stay True” – a downtempo, jazzy number conveying messages about the struggles and reflections everyone has been experiencing amid a dragging pandemic. It’s the sort of honesty Rider Shafique’s lyricism has built a reputation for over the years, especially in his recent link up with Trex on “Undergrowth”.

This isn’t the first time Selecta J-Man and Rider Shafique have combined on a Born on Road production. You may remember the pair joining forces on the title track from Selecta J-Man’s Round Here EP in 2019. “Stay True” is certainly not as geared for the dancefloor as “Round Here”, but we have no doubt people will be blasting it through their speakers all the same!

"My journey started in the early 2000s with rap/hip-hop music. Back then I was mostly active as a songwriter/MC/producer up until 2013. My most known project from that time was ''Plata Brez Rabata'' which was a collaboration mixtape between myself and my good friends/local artists (Luxi,Pingo,Sauce), it included 13 songs, and it was released on December 21st 2013. 

Then my first Outlook Festival happened, and that's where everything changed. 
I feel in love in deep dubstep/drum&bass, and it just felt like a natural progression to move on from making strictly rap/hip-hop music and to expand on my sound.
Looking up to producers like Youngsta, SP:MC, LX One, Biome, I started to slowly shape my own take on that early 2010s deep dubstep sound. As time went on and things got more serious, in 2017 my friends and I decided to form a group of producers and DJ's called Gonobeats which was going to push the sound system culture in our small country, by organizing parties/events and other music related educational programs. As a consequence of that, I made sure to stay very active in the studio by helping to deliver our sound in the best possible way.So far I released 3 self-release EP's and a couple of remixes."
