Billenkoek Vol. 1 is the saucy opening chapter of Dutch imprint Booty School — indisputably solidifying the label’s distinctive lush, vibrant, and playful sound.

“Billenkoek” is a Dutch term that can be loosely translated as “asscake,” but a more accurate translation would be “spanking.” In this case, it refers not so much to the punishment, but rather to a playful interpretation of it — the album functioning as a sonic spanking.

About the track:
I’m SEB WES — a 25-year-old UKG / Speed Garage (and anything adjacent) DJ and producer based in Amsterdam. In the daytime, I’m in charge of making sports television for ESPN, Ziggo Sport and Viaplay. But I mostly live for bass-infused nights.
I make music for that one moment — when you lock eyes with someone across the floor just as the bass enters. That split second of shared electricity. UK Garage is usually my tool of choice. Its basslines reach a place in me no other sound can.
It’s playful, gives you the freedom to be bold, weird, and wildly creative.

Before making ‘Harlequin’, I was deeply inspired by the reggaeton rhythms I encountered while travelling through Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia last year — how they move you and how they keep you dancing. That same energy had hit me before during Rozaly’s sets at Dekmantel and Selectors, where he made me dance for hours. Later, while working on a remix of one of my own tracks with fellow Garage enthusiast Eycee, he played me some reggaeton-esque, bass-heavy UKG tunes in the studio. I was sold. I knew I had to try it. So, I threw that inspiration in the pot, added my own sounds and style, and Harlequin came out.

PS. The name I got from smoking DMT in a coffee farm in Colombia and being greeted by a Harlequin-like figure. (Don’t tell my mom this story).
