Kate's debut EP 'Sprint' celebrates and cements a genre-fluid ethos with four tracks where texture and atmosphere take precedence over convention.

The EP’s opener ‘Harpan’ is a bold ambient statement, brimming with otherworldly, bell-like piano riffs, humming pads, long, gliding sweeps and sparse percussion. Written in the stillness of winter, ‘Harpan’ captures the quiet beauty of solitude and anonymity amid movement. The title track ‘Sprint’ shifts gears. A synth-surge launches the track before a slow release into breakdowns, trading the opener’s introspection for unbridled motion. ‘Hoover’ deepens the momentum with lurching rhythms, a drunken bassline, and tangled, footwork-inspired snares. Finally, ‘The Embrace’ delivers the most club-focused moment, rattling congas and panning djembes ride a punchy kick, giving way to a dramatic, techno-infused finale.

Intentional in its construction and unbound by genre, Sprint marks a powerful new chapter for Kate Miller.

Since then I have been hyper focused on whatever release he is putting out into the ether. One of my favorite releases was his Contrast EP on Grid Records. An innovative and immersive sonic experience, driven by the most satisfying sub-bass I've ever heard in a hot minute."

Eora’s dub-techno tastemaker Command D and Naarm’s harmoniser of the emotive and abstract Zara combine for Gravity Reset, a collaborative four-tracker on Butter Sessions.

Both producers are equally nestled with love into Australia’s underground, with releases on beloved labels like Animalia and Pure Space. Command D also boasts refined live sets heaving in sub-bass, while Zara's celebrated for boundary-blurring productions and her Kinesis imprint championing the local scene. On Gravity Reset, they meet in lockstep, delivering trance-inducing offerings rooted in a shared love of rhythm, space and subtlety seeded with dub minimalism and introspective, tech-driven sound design.The titular track 'Gravity Reset' sets the tone with a deep, persistent kick, reverberated snares, and a low-end that twists and lifts. 'Cascadia' introduces pad warmth and light percussion, where laughter weaves into the mix, adding a human touch to the dub-soaked cut. '2Pulse' brings expressive congas and dubby psychedelia into dialogue with the wubs, before The Fog closes in a haze of phasing hats and musky bass.

A collaboration for the ages. What they mean when they say #deep.

We've been a fan of sleek fata for a while now, often tuning into his exquisitely put together "Cremation of Care" shows - which explore a wide spectrum of experimental music focused on tracks with an high sound design profile going from psychedelic electronics to jazz with a touch of punk and trip hop between.

This mix beautifully showcases the variety of his tastes and skills of mixing it all together, from dub to dubstep, techno to half time & masterfully jumping tempo’s - sleek fata’s got it covered.

𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘅
I wanted to build a thematic journey that could bring together different types of music and tempos, while still feeling coherent as a whole. I found a strong inspiration in the icy textures of dub techno, it sparked the whole idea. So this is essentially a cold journey through the dub techno continuum (dub techno in the broad sense): half-time, dubstep, dub techno, footwork, downtempo… each track shares a similar colour palette, sonically speaking. Think light blue, white, and grey tones. I imagined a dancer trapped in a cold room with a perfect sound system, moving and reacting to these glacial sounds. But "glacial" doesn’t mean emotionless—on the contrary. Despite the chill, there's a lot of soul embedded in each track.

𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰?
I grew up listening to rap while living in the suburbs of Lyon as a kid. Later, when I moved into the city centre for university, I discovered electronic music. So yes, my environment has always shaped my musical taste—just like it does for everyone, I believe. Our preferences are influenced by sociological data: age, ethnicity, the country we grow up in, our parents' professions, and so on.

But beyond that, my uncle, who I lived with when I was younger, had a big impact. During the peak of the Emule era, he downloaded every US rap album he could find and burned them onto blank CDs. When I came home from school, I would pick one at random and discover a new album every day. That routine really shaped my digging habit. These days, the Bandcamp community is a big influence for me.

I’m working on Vision Pro Dubs, a various artists project that started as a special episode of my Cremation of Care radio show. It brings together contemporary and cutting-edge smooth dub sounds. Besides that, Malesa is working on their second album, and we’re putting together a remix EP of Seta Loto’s last release. I’m also collaborating with Cortex of Light on something exciting!

Il est tard le soir ou tôt le matin quand j’entre dans un nightshop. Pas de conso, seulement des aquariums remplis de poissons et de corails. Je prends un ticket, comme à la piscine, pour nager avec eux. Bientôt, l’aquarium devient la ville, et je nage entre les immeubles, entouré d’un corail multicolore, comme dans un trip psychédélique.

For the newest instalment, i'm really happy to welcome the incredible Brussels-based AliA (@aliamusicc). The local mainstay is a regular on Kiosk radio and runs her own label - @artisjokrecords. Alyah, better known as AliA,  has an exciting & unique approach to dj'ing. She is known for her blend of contemporary club music with jazz, classical and experimental sounds. 

I find AliA's musical outputs incredibly refreshing - the kind of artist who reminds you what a really good DJ can do - they can present genres & sounds to you that you'd otherwise maybe not typically explore, in a new and exciting way. For her Animix, Alyah has gone for an intensely chill blend of ambient & immersive music, with minimal, glitchy, dub techno, jazz, classical sounds and more.

The producer, real name Marco Sterk, first appeared on the Juno Plus radar with two EPs of spectral disco on his own, now defunct Hand Of God imprint back in 2010. However his talents were truly unveiled with last year’s beguiling Nonono 12” for the New York based ESP Institute label run by Lovefingers. Both the title track and “Darwin In Bahia” shimmered with a melodic warmth all too lacking from house music these days, and belied a predilection for sweet, minimalist percussion - not too dissimilar to what a Steve Reich house track might sound like.

This was preceded by an appearance on the Amsterdam All Stars compilation from Dutch imprint Rush Hour – where Marco works full-time as a designer – and an appearance on another Dutch label, Studio Soulrock, in collaboration with Tom Trago and Awanto 3. This year has seen Sterk settle down as a member of the ESP Institute family, first remixing Melbourne-based producer Michael Ozone's "Hetrotopia" to hypnotic effect, before returning last month with another solo outing, Video Days, which further demonstrated his ability to deliver music that doesn't quite fit into neat categories.

Marco's Juno Plus mix takes us on a journey through all manner of instrumental oddities, and he was kind enough to respond to some questions we fired at him via email, revealing news of a debut album slated for 2013 in the process.
