JAZZ WITH HUBERT
The voice clip announcing the concert performers says it all: the excitement of it all as he rolls out the outstanding musicians with Hubert Laws, and Bong Peñera's opening the show with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as a jazz piano solo, which he had done impromptu. The voice clip already introduced Hubert Laws musicians, but Peñera's were not. And so here goes, again: Bong was on piano, vocals and arrangements. Sonny Nabong was on bass, Edmond Fortuno on drums, Uly Avante on percussion, Edgar 'Koyang' Avenir on guitar, Gina Montes and Pat Castillo on vocals. On an audio track earlier uploaded to soundcloud, "Rainbow Seeker" there Bong had introduced Sonny Nabong on bass and Edmond Fortuno on drums.

An immortal Toots Thielemans composition, Bluesette, is hereby rendered fresh, packed with creative energy. It was one of those happy moments of mine, when, I on piano, am flanked by outstanding musicians: Edgar Avenir on guitar, Sonny Nabong on bass, Harry Tambuatco on drums, and Uly Avante on percussions. And winging over all of us is the one and only flawless voice of Gina Montes, whose singing made things look or sound easy, but it took exceptional skill and talent to execute those fast, hard driving lyrics and phrasings. I am blessed that the best singers ever there were, came my way and together we produced the best music that was, is, and still to come!
This was recorded during my Hyatt Calesa Bar days, 1977, recorded at Cinema Audio, with Boy Taquintic as recording engineer.
