‘Cora Novoa & The Artifacts’ is the full band project co-produced by Sónar Festival and Taller de Músics, which launches its first EP and capsule collection of T-shirts through the label SEEKING THE VELVET.

The project was launched exclusively in 2021 at the Sónar Istanbul & Sónar CCCB editions, and musically draws from electronic music and more urban styles such as trap, afrobeat, reggaeton, flamenco and leftfield. 

Conceptually, the work draws on current themes such as dystopia, technoethics, artificial intelligence, censorship, surveillance capitalism and dehumanisation, resulting in a powerful critique of the moral dilemmas and uncertainty we face as a society today.

The project is made up of music producer Cora Novoa, vocalist Alba Morena, bassist Tomàs Pujol and drummer Roger Calduch.

After the electroclash adventure that was 'Le Miroir EP' in 2021, the Madrid duo Mechudo returns to SEEKING THE VELVET and surprises us with the release of 'Unfamiliar', a rough, visceral and intense EP that reflects this period of instability and change that we are currently experiencing.

The five tracks on 'Unfamiliar' navigate between IDM ('LaMDA'), dark reggaeton ('Malos Pasos'), electro ('Automatic' or "Turn on your plane mode") and techno ('Cancellation'). 

The release is accompanied by the remix of the Sevillian duo CLOON, who submerge us in a tide of syncopated rhythms and that hypnotic vibe that characterises them to take the original track to an atmosphere of mystery and darkness.

The release comes close to the sounds of artists like The Hacker, Umwelt or Kelly Lee Owens.

CORA NOVOA is one of those spanish talents that never ceases amazing us. Next June she presents her new album Fight Love Faith, second reference of her new record label Seeking the velvet, from which she launches a capsule unisex streetwear and accessories collection. An extensive media promotional campaign will accompany these releases, ensuring the visibility of this innovative project as well as the impact of the new album.

To open us the doors of this creative universe, Galician composer and Dj, Cora Novoa, gives us a taster in the form of single with Golden Apples. This is a song with soul, pop structure and a beautiful story in its background. It blends perfectly electronics with pop, and the beautiful voice of folk singer Sam Tucker is conjugated with the melody to achieve such a sublime and surprising theme, in which is evident the influence of the Galician by black music, nuanced as the punch of the bass and the rhythm of the drums.

The launch ends with a remix of The Sight Below, one of the banner artists of American label Ghostly International. The New Yorker artist creates a dreamlike and enchanting atmosphere, where drones and its analog sound, so characteristic, give way to guitar riffs full of reverb. Undoubtedly, the perfect tandem for this coming-of Seeking the velvet.

This single is the public presentation of her label, a multidisciplinary project with three main lines of action -Art, Music & Design- reaching the public through music releases, collections of clothing, accessories design or collaboration with illustrators, among other initiatives that will be revealed from the label in the next 12 months of constant activity. Seeking the velvet initiatives take shape from a complex framework of references that supporters of the project will have to investigate to find the hidden mystery of each activity. Because, as they say, “Everything in SKTVT has a reason and we haven’t left anything to chance”.

Charismatic and always restless artist Cora Novoa presents her latest LP Fight Love Faith: a new album swinging between different styles such as electronic, indie and experimental pop, which keeps a distance with the sound she is used to. The LP, which will be released on September 2015, is an emphatic turning point that will definetively surprise at large both industry and her followers.

During these four years since her last album, the Galician artist has deeply dived into a thorough documentation among the complexity of mithology and occult sciences, disciplines that have directly influenced the narrative, composition and creation of this new LP.

Cora Novoa has been experimenting, locked up in her studio, with unexpected sounds in order to shape and create this new release, which shows a closer essence to soul, broken beat rythms, detailed melodies and far from mainstream vocals. Black music with a techno heart.

Fight Love Faith brings us the new age and most synthpop sound of Novoa. Tracks shaped using Roland machines and synthesizers sequences that will take us directly back to the early 80 ́s.
With this new album the artist shows, shock wave like, melodies, splashed with psychedelia, and deeply influenced by the most underground electronic sound.

In addition to the standard version, this new release will also be available in a smoky grey plexiglass limited edition packaging, that compels to join, therefore, the musical experience with a high end graphic and product design. Both formats deliberately deconstruct the mainstream concept of cover and back cover, giving the audience, in a subtle though daring way, the change to decide where to start and which face we chose for our own Fight Love Faith experience.

This album is far from standard parameters, but strongly loaded with symbolism and occultist references and meanings, all of which have been precisely stitched along the whole narrative, with no loose ends. A sincere declaration of intent that invites us to unravel the true meaning of Fight Love Faith.

This May will see the return of Spanish composer and Seeking the Velvet Creative Director Cora Novoa for her forthcoming EP “In Your Mind”: a release that seeks to explore the deepest reaches of our minds through overwhelming sounds of a clearly acid and hypnotic nature, and featuring collaborations from French composer Maelstrom (Bromance/Zone), Dreems (Multi-Culti), artists Rubenimichi and audiovisual production company DG Recreation.

Following her acclaimed last album “Fight Love Faith” that marked a new direction in her artistic career, Cora Novoa unveils her darkest side with this new EP released under her very own SKTV label, an ambitious multidisciplinary project based in Barcelona.

“In Your Mind” includes remixes from Maelstrom, who showcases his analogic sound landscapes composed of long improvisations and his signature techno, and from Dreems, an artist from Canadian record label Multi-Culti, who reinterprets the track “Consciousness” until achieving a sublime balance of sonic exoticism inspired by African and Tropical music. A perfect work of “sampling” made of the most minimalist sounds released by Multi-Culti label.

The cover features an original artwork signed by Spanish art collective Rubenimichi who, in consonance with Cora Novoa’s aesthetic influences, play with symbolim and mystery elements to recreate a cosmic language that ultimately defines them. With ocultism, secrecy, darkness and magic as fundamental references of their work, they appear in perfect tune with this release.

Following their highly acclaimed video clip of “Soag” for Bpitch Control’s artist Phon.o and their “Tw33tz” for 50Weapons, the audiovisual production Company DG Recreation has produced the accompanying video clip for the central track “In Your Mind”, featuring an oneiric visual narrative as their reinterpretation of this song.

All in all, “In Your Mind” is a solid work that will lead us to Cora Novoa’s techno sounds followed by a wink to her latest African music influence: call it eclectic if you wish, but you might as well miss the point, since this artist has always strived to be nothing but herself, beyond labels and styles, in her own rich and unpredictable artistic explorations.

In this new release, Seeking the Velvet’s Creative Director Cora Novoa collaborates with the legendary Munich-based duo Chicks on Speed (Alex Murray-Leslie and Melissa Logan) to reinterprets the track “Wir Sind Data” into a dancefloor-filler remix, achieving a sublime balance of Chicks on Speed’s signature highly content saturated electro pop with Novoa’s own dark and techno sound landscapes, resulting in a cheeky, thought-provoking and techno track sure to hypnotize the dance-floor.

This new EP released under Cora Novoa’s ambitious project SKTVT features top-notch contributions from multidisciplinary artist, model and “It girl” Encarni Lovexxx, creator of the official video clip: a video art piece in 3D packed with digital references and in tune with the digital perspective of the project- and the high fashion conceptual couture store 44STORE & 44STUDIO, based in Madrid, who has designed a limited edition T-shirt inspired by “We Are Data” theme, available soon.

The original song features Chicks on Speed’s take on Peter Weibel & Hotel Morphila Orchester’s famous song “Wir Sind Daten”, a tribute to Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden from 2013, recorded in collaboration with Weibel for their last album Artstravaganza (2014), including contributions from a diverse range of collaborators like Yoko Ono and Julian Assange, among others.

The Catalonian producer, multi-instrumentalist and Sound Engineer Eduard Tarradas aka Clip will release Gamma Ray, a single EP released on digital version by Seeking the Velvet Records in collaboration with Red Bull Music Academy Spain, featuring remixes by Cora Novoa and Tadeo, as a teaser of his highly anticipated debut album to be released by SKTVT in a Vinyl edition next October.

Named after stellar phenomena, on these two new tracks Clip returns to action with a 100% analogical production using drum machines and modular analog synthesizers. The first track, “Gamma Ray” is an explosion of analog techno unfolding deep inside our brains while the second “Applegate Mechanism” immerse us in a long term orbital period through its pads and sound universe.
Gamma Ray EP features remixes by Spanish composer and Seeking the Velvet Creative Director Cora Novoa –who draws sound landscapes rich in details with an overwhelming instrumental base that bring us to the deepest evocations of the Amazonian jungle- and Madrid-based DJ, producer and label manager Tadeo, acclaimed as one of the Spanish Techno artists with a solid international following. Beyond his own labels (Cyclical Tracks, NET28, Another Intelligence), Tadeo’s latest album was released by Psyk’s label NON SERIES. Tadeo’s reinterpretation of “Gamma Ray” is a techno-futurism track that show us his unique sound universe full of mental sounds and groovy sequences.

The cover features an artwork signed by Spanish Visual Artist & Designer Viktor Autofocus, one-half of the Design & Art Direction duo Realmente Bravo who created the artwork for Agorazein’s latest album –collective leaded by rapper C. Tangana.

The number three is the sum of the first two natural numbers, the trident, the primary colors and the states of matter. In classical Greece, a set of three tragic works from one author constituted one work of art. Likewise, three is the number of acts which form the latest album by Cora Novoa.

The album is a conceptual trilogy based on the Aristotelian structure of a story. A personal diary kept and guarded in the mind is now shared through music— a universe in three acts.

The first act speaks to the fascination of the human ability to overcome pain and fear. Based on the premise of “Our words have brought us this far, only our actions will take us further”, the work is inspired by the historical suffering of the Polish community and represents the survival of the individual through hope and overcoming fear. This gabber-style techno appeals to the most human and primary of actions: rebirth.

The Producer and DJ from Galicia Cora Novoa is releasing “The Art of Losing”, the second act of her trilogy “Mental Diary”, a three-part album created totally analogically that narrates metaphorically where the artist is right now.

Whilst the first act, released last November, is about the obsession that humans have with overcoming pain and fears, the second act is about feelings of loss. Inspired by the poem “One Art” by the North American poet Elizabeth Bishop, this second part of the trilogy explores the concept of the end.  Universal concepts such as love, death and loss are also taken to a physical dimension, are we ready for this?  The second act of “Mental Diary” takes the depth of Bishop’s words into the realms of music.

The central track, called “State of Mind” “the phenomenon whereby the universe's very existence is made known” in the words of the British mathematician Roger Penrose, was chosen to be part of the project “Sónar Calling GJ273b”, the first radio message ever in to be sent to a potentially habitable exoplanet, which the Barcelona festival Sónar launched to mark its 25th anniversary. 

Moreover, “State of Mind” is the track that was chosen for a video that is directed by Alex Gargot. Through a dark and disturbing atmosphere the video tells the story of the loss of a child from the perspective of a totally devastated mother. With the aim to give continuity to the story and to give the project a storyline, this new video features some of the characters who appeared in the video of the first act.  The millennial imagery and the urban and post-internet aesthetics are also part of the visual language in this new release, central theme of which is loss. 
This second act will be released in a limited edition cassette, with special packaging and a poster, all carefully designed to expand the creative and visual language of the first release. And, for the first time, the release of the single is accompanied by a collection of limited edition t-shirts designed by the Swiss streetwear creative project Hässig, a brand that suits Cora Novoa’s imagery and visual language perfectly.
