Sister Mary x Ghast - Edges Of The Earth

The second release within our EXP catalog welcomes yet another producer from the Austrian city of Graz. d:enigma brings us 'El Viaje,' a journey through two emotive tracks originally written for a short film.

The A Side 'enova' introduces a distressing mood. Warped vocals turn into brooding chants driven by a heavily swung and hypnotic drum groove. While 'cura' takes a turn, providing a release from the gloomy first half of the project. The B Side brings a stimulating palette of synth layers and chopped tonal bits, and still possesses the head-nod flavor that's prevalent in d:enigma's sound.

When I think of up and coming artists in the Pacific Northwest, two names instantly come to mind: Seattle-based producers Xakra and Klippee have both been making waves all across the bass music spectrum lately, with huge releases on Encrypted Audio and Lifestyle Music respectively, big shows from The Black Box in Denver all the way to the UK, and massive support on their tunes from the likes of Noisia, Hyroglifics, Khiva, and many more. While Chase Transeth AKA Klippee tends to find himself in the drum and bass and uptempo beat music domain, Xakra can be found in the swamps of 140 bpm and anything dubstep-adjacent, and the latter is where today's premiere lies. A clear nod to the classic wobble of pre-2010 Tempa and Deep Medi Records era dubstep with a modern twist, "Squad Car" is a shining example of why the 140 scene is alive and well in 2020. Mentored by one of the geniuses of the Portuguese Bass scene, the wonderful late Razat, RIP, Carlos Salgueiro, producing under the moniker Dead End, has come from deep hip-hop roots to passionately embrace what has been labelled as the ‘future sound’ of Bass music. Tasteful pallets of abstract, ethereal structures, raw powered-up bass movements and artfully composed, but heavy as fuck, beats are just some of the ingredients.”

A few of the more open-minded Bass scenes including Bristol, Denver and Shenzhen, to name a few, have been embracing this crunchy, ‘Wonkay’ universe of Halftime for years now. Unchained are very much part of the this religion, operating under the same guiding principle….. “a bent frequency is a good frequency”

Enter Dead End with his “Strapped” EP. Whilst we envision that this release may not necessarily be for the old school head, we love this for its dirty aesthetic, tidal wave low-end and for its effect on unsuspecting dancefloors.
