SPF 50, real name Stephan Kimbel Olson, is a resident of the longstanding Bob & Shirley party, runs the Professional Music label, and has graced New York’s finest sound systems with his deep, rolling club sets. In his numerous roles - DJ, engineer, party promoter, label head, producer and dancer - Stephan has become an essential contributor to the city's nightlife culture, a fixture in our extended sonic community.

Stephan's first release on Bliss Point, Social Life, might well be a transmission from a nearby dimension; a collection of club artifacts peaking from just behind the thin veil. On Side A, Stephan has channeled two booming workouts, each with modular synthesis evoking the organic: an unruly bassline snakes through the aural fauna of "Body Concept", while breaks and acid fly by on "Liquid USB", an intricate sonic constellation propelling through space, culminating in the release of classic house chords midway.

On the B side, Stephan takes us further into the unknown. "Grove Map" is world-building club ambiance aptly named after The Grove, a stage deep in the woods at New York's Sustain-Release festival, where portals have long known to be opened. "Iris (Bad Water Version)”, rounds out the offering, a drippy dub that time seems to slip off of, perfect for a melted warm up or come down.

Bliss Point is proud to present Social Life, an offering for those familiar with the power of the deep, as SPF 50 is.

For our 569th podcast, it's one of the oldest member of the crew who's in charge, here's how he describes this mix : "For some reason, I never did a solo SSS podcast until now – mixed parts of collaborative podcasts, as well as a b2b2b podcast with my friends Ganesa & Squane a few years ago, but I never did one on my own. I've been making music for 20 years, DJing for 15 & a member of SSS for 12 years now, so 2025 felt like the time to do it. I wanted it to reflect this trajectory. I've never been one to stick to one style, and my sets have always been about opening borders rather than sitting in one place. Through the years though, my selections moved amongst a wide array of styles and while I'll never be able to include them all in one cohesive set, I wanted this SSS Podcast to reflect this. The 40 tracks here are all tracks that I've played a lot at some point or another, arranged as a mixtape designed to show what I love most. Electronic music that's rooted in the hardcore continuum and its many forms, but that also feels forward-thinking, exploratory & adventurous; jumping from one style to another to create new dynamics; that pirate radio feeling of tracks that may sound raw or muddy, but have that distinct, spatial, melancholy, emotional element to them. I also included a few cuts from my label Syrinx Music, as well as noise tracks I love for the opening & closing. I hope you enjoy the listen."

Would there be an electronic culture and scene in Lisbon without Mary B?
The answer is clearly no. DJing for 22 years, she has played alongside some of the biggest names on the scene, from Thievery Corporation to Laurent Garnier,Zip-I, Daniel Bell... She has also worked in marketing for leading Portuguese radio stations such as Antena 3 and Oxigenio, on which she hosted “Ultraleve” and “Trapézio Voador”, Radar and Marginal for several years. Alongside Joao Maria, the label's boss, she is a founding supporter of Assemble Music and the eponymous events, and is also behind one of Portugal's most important electronic events, Lisb-On Festival. When she is not found performing at clubs across Portugal, or at her own club, Disaster, she greets you with her biggest smile at Collect, her bar/restaurant/radio/records store project, a place of pilgrimage for diggers and connoisseurs of electronic music. Is it really necessary to go on with her CV, or is it already enough for you to understand that Mary B is a real DJ, with all the passion and enthusiasm that implies?
That's why we're proud to invite Mary B to our 570th podcast. As you'll have gathered, with such a musical background, her selection is beyond reproach, perfectly combining the punchy energy of European techno or the subtlety of “Warpian” ambient-electronica with the groove of New York house, all sprinkled with a few melodies from Detroit. There are no scratches or outrageous cuts here, the quality and richness of the track-list standing on its own.In short, there's too much to write about this charismatic character, so it's best to let her music speak for itself. PS: It's worth pointing out that Mariana knows how to surround herself with her fine team of "old ravers" (João Maria, Bernardo Girão, Zé Salvador,...) to bring her various projects to fruition, but this will probably be the subject of future podcasts.
