It feels special to host him here with a mix that captures his signature flow: syncopated percussive bass, half-time/double-time momentum, and cutting-edge sound design tied together with groove and finesse. The first episode of habitus mix brings together the minds and skills of Pugilist and Firas. Pugilist is the prolific and acclaimed Scottish/Kiwi producer who recently launched his own imprint Ruff Kutz and who has released music on such celebrated record labels as Nous'klaer Audio, Modern Hypnosis, Samurai Records, 3024 and Banoffee Pies Records. Firas is a Syrian-Australian DJ and broadcaster, and the music director at PBS 106.7FM, Naarm's premier specialist music radio station. 

This episode features music from such artists as L.B. Dub Corp, Flying Lotus, DJ Plead & rRoxymore, Crown and Country, LSS, Quincy Raw, Big Hands, Barker, and Forest Drive West, to name just a few. The tracks included here are at once joyful and heartbreaking, still and furious, ambient and ecstatic. Brilliant mixing and long, patient blends hold the music together, and loose, imperfect ruptures ensure that this 2.5-hour episode remains compelling from start to finish.

At this beginning of October, we asked Marie Tjong Ayong to put down her trumpet for a few moments to record our monthly podcast. ✨🤲✨ Here’s a set recording at one of the last of a festival-filled summer: @sustain-release-nyc

No set theme/mood, just a journey thru a bunch of tunes I really do love and hoped people would enjoy; but to quote my girl @livwutang, it was rooted in a love for Black music (this mix cover was taken by her during the set <3). Stitching together threads of dubstep, jazz, house, breaks, garage, hip hop, dub, etc.

At some points this kinda feels more like a beat tape with selector style mixing + no long blends. A lil fusion of tired/nervous/letting the tunes shine

Thank you @itsallhalal + the rest of the team for the opportunity to close The Gym on Fri night and for looking after me. And ofc out to the amazingly welcoming dancers inside ❤️

MK closing set @ Sustain-Release Festival [NY, Sept '25]

Upstairs//Downstairs, a Melbourne collective that’s been championing international artists for over five years, is now proud to launch its label with Italian-born, London-based producer Big Hands. 

Titled “Anti Militarist Dubs,” the EP stands strong in its message and sound — four cuts built for deep listening and heavy systems. 

Opening with Battle of Cannae, a dubby roller filled with crisp percussion and meditative warmth — the perfect soundtrack for sunlit sound systems. 

A2 — Battle of Carrhae follows closely behind, a deep 120BPM bass groover with detailed percussion and rich textures that tie the first side together beautifully. 

Flipping over, B1 — Stolen Land, a collaboration with Melbourne heavyweight Pugilist, takes things into club territory. Spacious, weighty and rhythmically twisted, filled with polyrhythmic grooves, a few wubs, and gritty percussive drive. Strap in. 

Closing the record, B2 — Battle of Edessa pushes the tempo to 160BPM — a sharp, hypnotic finisher that shows why Big Hands continues to stand out as one of the most exciting producers doing it right now.
