Old Boy & Squidbrain - Miss Somebody EP out 12 January
Berlin producers Old Boy and Squidbrain team up on four high BPM tracks combining breakbeats, future garage, and jungle/footwork.  The tracks balance space, melody and dense pads with raw and propulsive percussion, delivered with carefully crafted, fully analog mastering.  For this EP, the two united around a concept inspired by their experiences in the cities and countryside of Japan, and their own roots in Berlin and Philly.

The opening track, Miss Somebody, establishes the core theme of rich pads and vocals, and driving breakbeats.  Squidbrain’s Bobbie comes next which starts out as a more ambient, pensive piece centered around synth brass and arpeggios before shifting into a more technological and percussive territory akin to UK bass.  Old Boy’s remix of Bobbie recasts it as a bouncy and upbeat breakbeat track, delivering the EPs most fun moments.  Coming last, Squidbrain’s remix of Miss Somebody adopts the features of jungle, footwork and a taste of baile funk.

About the Artists
Old Boy and Squidbrain met in a smoky dive bar on a dark and quiet street in Berlin’s Neukölln neighborhood, bonding over their shared obsession with collecting records and trading music.  Berlin native Old Boy leads the Passive Studio Recordings record label where over the last decade he’s released a wide range of underground dance music from dubstep, garage, house, and DnB.  Squidbrain comes out of Philadelphia, relocating to Berlin in 2017, and has been releasing a variety of raw and offbeat dance music on independent labels including NC4K, W133 and his own Pet’s Choice label.
