Would you like to play a game? The Paris-based rising star musician Joe Lewandowski (SXDNS347) challenges you to stay away from his freshest release coming soon on Friendsome Records. Mission: Impossible if you are into high-quality retro-infused Indie Dance/Dark Disco cuts, and even more impossible if you are a vinyl lover – yeah, his forthcoming instalment will also be available in twelve inches: “Clair-Obscur” comes with four remarkable originals, two of which in collaboration with French producers Manlia (“Power”) and DJ Football (“Play That Game”). The latter, premiered here.

With well-received appearances on Amsem, Skylax, Les Disques Pavillon, and Nothing Is Real, Joe has been drawing a lot of attention with his outstanding fusion of organic instruments and synthesisers. It’s not uncommon to see him soaking his productions with his self-made guitar riffs and bass lines, a consequence of his Rocker years. 

For his partnership with DJ Football, Joe opened the vaults of his Post-Punk influences and came up with a brilliant Ian-Curtis-meets-New-Order theme. With a progressive and avant-garde aura, “Play That Game” is one of the best tracks of the year so far. However, not everyone will dare play it at peak time – where it belongs. The reason: It is a too-bold track and not every DJ has the guts to do it. Challenge accepted?

finestylewest are absolutely made up to present the debut EP from Osaka-based techno producer tsumasaki, a fixture of underground events of all stripes across Kansai with her live sets for the past several years. 

We have pulled out all the stops to make this release a very special one - you only get the one debut after all - highlighting her cracking sound design and making sure all of these tracks punch their due weight booming out a pair of speakers. 

As the title suggests, the name of the game this time around is techno, albeit in a variety of flavours. The collection leads off with topi, a track taking its cues from both the (huge intake of breath) Les Rhythmes Digitales remix of Cassius's "Feeling for you" and Kraftwerk as mixed by François Kevorkian, the thumping electro rhythm augmented by delays pinging the melodic elements up down left right front back and centre to infinity and beyond. 

rat tail is pure shrieking driving acid techno, not too far from what labelmate and influence IDATEN gets up to whenever he's on a techno tip but more punishing, more relentless and more careening off the rails, with a garage house loop thrown in for good measure even towards the end. 

Conversely gua - possibly the objective pick of the bunch - is simply sublime, perfectly encapsulating the minimal ethos developed by Kompakt and similar labels in the early noughties. It is here where the cracking sound design absolutely shimmers, not the one sound excessive or out of place but rather everything working seemlessly together to build up and sustain its own little world. 

Lastly greed has been one of the cornerstone tracks of tsumasaki's live set and, speaking honestly, the track that got her onto the label. As the word "epic" has been beaten to death in the English language we shall say instead it is an odyssey of a track, dragging you left before swerving right and then shoving you back left again with a dollop of rave stabs on top. It is testament to a truly impressive vision of what techno can be and should be a staple for its sheer ingenuity. 

On the remix front both IDATEN and Sekitova launch lead-off single topi into breaks territory, with IDATEN taking a bouncier, housier approach (not for nothing has he received several call-ups supporting Soichi Terada for Kyoto shows) whilst Tokyo-based, Osaka-bred Sekitova's more progressive and ambient take will be held up in 20 years' time as the perfect example of the Kansai breaks/house sound, not too far removed from what you would expect from Pee.J Anderson and yet another (albeit very different) triumph of excellent sound design. 

Label head Archipelago Soundsystem flips greed into a dark cybernetic grime number, punch-drunk portamento sub bass and seasick guitar feedback samples trying to work out just where everything in their life went wrong on the last train home, the odd rave hit flying by like the reflections of city lights on the glass. 

For the last track and this time's special guest remixer we're once again back in Barcelona but switching genres to trance with Aeryeen, cofounder of label/club night SEXTOSENTIDO. Last year's Flashing lights EP (sextosentido909.bandcamp.com/album/sxt000-flashing-lights) was a personal favourite for its euphoric and melodic approach to the genre but this remix trades on pure rhythm, its gorgeous gated synth line rising from a sea of motorik squelching sequencers and haunting FX.

DJ/Producer born in Osaka on a new year’s day of 1995.  

Even before he was born, he already had a prenatal influence such as Joey Beltram and Dave Angel and was exposed to various electronic music who is literally from a second generation. He had so much influence other than techno, and with a motto "Techno is not a genre but an attitude to face it." in his heart, his music selection goes beyond genre and is focused on story-telling. 2013 was a break-through year for him. He was booked for main stage of Big Beach Festival and not only that, he was constantly invited to monster techno party Clash held at ageHa. In 2014, 3-hour-long SEKITOVA ONLY program was streamed on DOMMUNE by Naohiro Ukawa in collaboration with his first ever self organized party which was on a good note. He also made appearances at wide range of parties from first edition of Ultra Japan by Ultra Music Festival to Wired Clash which is a collaboration party of Wire and Clash as well as main floor of Womb in Shibuya for its 15th anniversary showing his steady progress in his career in the scene.  

On December 5th, 2012 his first album "premature moon and the shooting star" was released from his own label and since then it was highly acclaimed by many top artists such as Yoshinori Sunahara, Dj Sodeyama, Hideo Kobayashi to name a few. It was ranked in Top10 on iTunes electronic chart and 6th in Music Magazine's 2013 best under techno/house/breakbeats section. Making the most of his position on the scene, he has remixed many tracks beyond different fields such as track by Maya Jane Coles and game "Persona" series music by Atlas and many more. His work "Formal Strip" released from Sugiurumn's label BassWorks Recordings was ranked 2nd in Wasabeat's techno chart, remix of Fake Eyes Production's single "Bad Girl" co-worked with Taar was ranked 9th on iTunes electoronic song chart.　And their EP that includes the track was ranked as no.1 in album chart.   Some exciting projects are waiting to be shared - original track featuring Chisato Moritaka and his track "Formal Strip" being remixed by Rush Hour's Dr. San Proper.  Ele-King's editor Tsutomu Noda described him as "A bright star of Japanese club culture's future" and he has, no doubt, already become one of the essential key persons in the scene.
