It must be good to be the owner of a record label. Even better if this label is a respected one, like Nein. Whenever you feel bored, you just need to release some new stuff, invite a couple of friends to provide some cool remixes, send a message to a fellow dinosaur soliciting a premiere, and that’s it, you got yourself a new EP! The lack of need of sending out demos is the closest someone must get from Paradise.

Yes, we are talking about Neil Parnell aka Tronik Youth (SXDNS050): He returns with a powerful new single on his own label. “U R A Slave”, with its Sunday-Bloody-Sunday-like militaristic drum rolls pounding into the chorus, delivers a mighty heaviness – kind of aggressiveness – to the dance floor (the piece of heaven on Earth that we all have been craving to go back to). 

Black Light Smoke and Mundo D take over the remix duties, and we were requested to review the former’s contribution. The North American producer brought to the original an electro/darkwave 80s vibe, removing the soldierly attitude and bestowing a sleazier and breezier aura. The label boss must have loved it – so do we!

Once upon a time the town had been a buzzing centre for trade; a place that thrived and was a beacon for its community. But all life had gone now; it lay abandoned, forgotten by those who'd once called it home. Where its inhabitants had gone, nobody knew, it was as though they'd disappeared into thin air, and now the place stood still, captured in time - a relic of the past holding memories that would never be told again. 

Shadows of Ecstasy is Montreal duo and Bella Union affiliates The Beat Escape's second album. But the road to completing the long player wasn't exactly a smooth one. The first iteration of the release, which was the result of thousands of hours of work, was lost to tech difficulties which forced the pair to start from scratch. They did so with a simplified analog set-up and these recordings are now seeing the light of day via Aurum Argentum Records. Their off-kilter synth pop cuts and rich soundscapes are paired with member Adam Ohr's mystical lyricism, the first single of which 'Ash Extracted From Ash' is released today for your listening pleasure.

Celebrating both Abstraxion and DC Salas’s individual home cities – Marseilles and Brussels – ‘MRS x BXL’ is a concept so deliciously simple you’ll be surprised that it hasn’t happened before in Biologic’s rich 17 year history.
Each city takes a different side of the vinyl with three acts representing. First up we have Brussels with Azo taking the lead. Hot on the heels of her hugely successful ‘Space Tourism’ EP earlier this year, she joins forces with DJ Lovepills to kick start this cross-border boogie with a springy slab of cosmic acid house before Fuse Club resident Sara Dziri takes the batten and runs with it to a pounding relentless funky tech groove. Finally label co-boss DC Salas twists the vibe inside out with a smouldering low-tempo acid hip-slinker.
The same rich range is reflected on the flip as the Marseilles massive takeover. Caïn و Muchi set the tone with Persian prayer-call mysticism and a beguiling sense of drama, Abstraxion goes full flavour Italo and Oras Elone closes the EP with a throbbing slo-mo dark disco finale that pulsates and oozes attitude and finesse... Very much like the good folk of Marseilles themselves.

Perched on a crossroads, Pin Up Club approaches electronic music with a magpie’s nature. A spread of styles has been picked, plucked and plundered to make ‘Friends Of The Vortex’. The title piece snaps with clean beats as Blade Runner bars build with an energy that can only be described as palpable. Latin percussion and samples get the groove going for ‘Children Of The Void’. Flirting, the tone twirls and turns. Keys are big and full bodied, balanced perfectly by the crack of a snare. ‘Out Of The Unknown’ closes. A slow burning piece brimming with brooding cinematic shapes and strings, a work that shows the colder edge of this dutch duo. Quality through and through.

Pin Up Club - Friends Of The Vortex

Playground Records presents its 29th reference. A complex release full of crazy modulations and sticky rhythms produced by the Ukrainian artist ID_UA. The EP contains 2 originals plus 2 hypnotic remixes by the English Kincaid and the Greek Anatolian Weapons.
The kickoff is given by the beats of ‘Anyway’. The ritual begins. The percussions plays in the jungle with a fat bassline. Stranger voices jumps into the scene. Sharp synths cuts the air. We get lost in the mantra. A strong gallop presents ‘Crazy Fields’. A powerful bassline joins the cause. Weird voices fights against mad frequencies and acid touches. The intensity grows. Mystic pads give us shelter. The storm has passed.
Kincaid takes ‘Anyway’ and turns it into a trippy downtempo break. Low drums interact with modulated vocals. A heavenly piano says present. The air between the instruments give us a moment for the imagination. The rhythm kidnaps us and is not interested in accepting any ransom.
The remix of ‘Crazy Fields’ comes from the hand of Anatolian Weapons. A psychedelic ode full of lysergic landscapes. Advanced electronics for the journey. Metallic congas for a futuristic salsa. Almost a religious experience.
