Schon der dritte oder vierte Absatz muss es sein, als ich zurückblicke. Dass das der Ort ist, woher ich komme, erahne ich nur. Erinnern kann ich mich nicht. Zehn Stufen bis zum nächsten Level - das wievielte von wie vielen? Es hallen allein meine Schritte in der Leere, dennoch umgeben mich die Wächter der vergangenen Reisenden bunt vom kalten Putz lachend. Sie zeigen mir wohlwollend, aber mahnend: dies ist der Weg und das ist das Ziel.

Ten stages to the next level – which level of how many at all? Solely my footsteps echo in the emptiness, yet the guardians of past travelers surround me, laughing gaily from the cold plaster. They show me benevolently, but till admonishingly: this is the path, and this is the goal.

Die grauen Betonplatten unter deinen Füßen, schmeckst du noch Rauch, fühlst Stahl und Backstein, während dir deine warme, innere Stimme beruhigend im Takt der vergangenen Nacht zuschnurrt: „verstanden.“

Flickering ears. A sharp blue sky. You get a hint of the sun, squinting through the broken windows of the former, northern ammunition plant. Concrete slabs beneath your feet. You still taste the fume, you feel bricks and steel and your warm, inner voice purrs soothingly in last night's rhythm: „understood“.

I swiftly shake the dream off my mind and see the lucidity and fragility of the clearing. An island in the middle of nothingness. It's about time to take a deep breath and stop the clock.

I give her a goofy artificial wink, hoping she's satisfied.
The look on her face says she thinks I'm sufficiently certifiable.
As I put my sunglasses back on, I get right into it, pondering about the opening for our set tonight.
I already feel that tingling in my ears.

As I open my eyes, it takes a few minutes until I see something and recognize where I am. Deeply focused, I try to feel this chill and fresh air that flows into me with every breath. I realize myself slowly recovering consciousness but yet there is a veil covering everything. I still don't rightly know what happened last night, but I have a hunch that this is the beginning of something magical.

With a wry smile, I imagine how nice it would be to experience a first rave again.

I sit on the back seat, for about an hour now I'm looking out of the window letting the woods pass me by. It almost seems as if someone's stroking a still wet picture with quite a soft brush. "Have you ever noticed that you can't really tell where the forest begins and where it ends?". "What do you mean?", sounds a somewhat lackadaisical grumbling from the passenger seat. "Well, when you're in the thick of it, you know you're inside of it. When you're far away, you know you're outside, but at the boundary it's like the penumbra of a spotlight or the edge of a cloud." Silence in the car for a while. "Look, the first billboards and lights. There's our exit already".

Almost light-footed, I wriggle out of my vehicle and take a leap onto the barren soil. My shoes kick up dust, almost as if an aura traces their silhouette. I look around and enjoy the harsh vast. I catch a breath and get back behind the wheel. A quick glance, a pause, then I hit the gas and enjoy the rush.

Flying at 2000 kilometres per hour with nothing more than my shirt and pants on. Levitating just far enough above earth, so that I can still see the pulsating veins of the cities, but also slightly feeling like I'm touching space if I just stretch my hand up high enough. I hold on to your wings, which seem like paper to me. Which nevertheless have so much strength to carry both of us throughout orbit. So the rhythm, the beats carry us like strokes of wings through the hours that lie behind us and those that are yet to come.
