In the last few years, Miami has transformed into a hotbed of raw talent and one of its hallmarks is SEL.6, who also happens to be one of the finest artists originally out of Broward County. Jumpstarting her career with the widely revered and self-released Desire series and initiated into Miami’s scene via Space Tapes, the label that launched some of Miami’s most prized and internationally recognized dance music artists; she has woven herself into the fabric of the city’s underground telling the story of her Floridian identity and giving beauty and finesse to the sounds that encompass “Floridacore” in electronic music. Her productions are characterized by signature trancelike soundscapes, sampling inspired by a deep passion and respect for R&B, combined with crisp and powerful percussions while weaving between electro to breaks to hardgroove to jungle making her music perfect for any high ocassion and landing her onto labels like Allergy Season and Omnidisc. This energy transcends into the way she plays, always creating impactful and heavy dance floor moments cementing her as a gem in the city’s club culture. Truly a DJ’s DJ, a massive talent and a dear friend we have loved and watched grow alongside us.

sel.6 graces the 909 mix series this week a harder session that allowed the miami gem to ‘pump some techno/clubby stuff that i haven’t had a chance to really play out lately’. not one for the faint hearted, the fast and furious mix dips between moments of boisterous rhythms, early detroit influences, jacking energy and a sprinkling of warm euphoria for good measure. all neatly wrapped up with that florida heat. 

over the last few years, miami has returned to the forefront of underground dance music as its hotbed of ridiculous local talent came to the forefront with sel.6 part of that wave. the wealth of miami’s scene was showcased across the homecore! miamis all star compilation curated by danny daze in 2022, bridging together house music legends to idm and hip hop pioneers. this rich historical context is what makes sel.6 stands out as she taps into those who were before her to create a sound that pushes things forward with her productions drawing from r&b, electro, breaks, hardgroove and jungle. jumpstarting her career with the self-released desire series before landing on the city’s famed space tapes imprint, sel.6 has since landed on physical therapy’s allergy season, omnidisc and most recently impacto including a collaboration with coffintexts and a remix from jubilee.
