Selador boss man (job share) Steve Parry is turning 50. Hard to believe when you look at the man's effervescence and energy as he juggles Selador with regular high level gigs, his bespoke promo company SMP3, and of course his blossoming studio exploits.

A true solider of the scene, Steve has dedicated his adult life to club culture, and his abiding passion of discovering and sharing new music, be it from behind the counter at the legendary 3 Beat record store, behind the decks playing at the equally legendary Cream, and as both promoter and resident DJ at cult 00s night Alderaan (all in his home town of Liverpool).

He has long sourced tunes for some of the very biggest DJs (initially via vinyl packages sent from 3 Beat, but quickly adapting to a digital service), and SMP3 has worked with many key labels including Sudbeat, Bedrock, Lost and Found, Frau Blau and Renaissance. Steve's knowledge and enthusiasm remain undimmed.

The advent of Selador has also given Steve a natural home for his finely crafted productions (bar a couple of exceptions which John Digweed nabbed for Bedrock) - and to celebrate this big birthday milestone, we've invited three of Steve's favourite producers to remix three of his previous Seladorian gems.

303V remixed by Doc Martin

Talking of soldiers of the scene, Doc Martin, the much-loved globetrotting, genre straddling DJ, takes Steve's paean to the Liverpool club night, maintains the original's addictive squelchiness, while going for a hypnotically funky workout.

What You Make It remixed by Renato Cohen

Selador favourite Renato Cohen from Brazil keeps the peak time spirit of last year's What You Make It very much intact but adds his own inimitable twist to proceedings. Bass face!

Fenner remixed by Bebetta

Completing our titanic trio, Berlin's creative powerhouse Bebetta takes Steve's evergreen Fenner and wraps its inescapable vocal hook in a dreamy techno blanket. Gorgeous.

It's an aspring story, one that's led Just Her to a notable discography on labels including Anjunadeep, Crosstown Rebels, Global Underground and, lest we forget, Balance Music. 

Yet, the Just Her goal transcends mere success: she aspires to infuse the industry with kindness and compassion. We daresay she's succeeeding; that energy is evident in this excellent session. 

Across 90 minutes you’ll find a heady but joyful mix of contemporary house (Logic1000, Byron the Aquarius), UK garage-breaks (Beatune, Lili Chan) and progressive-tinged deep techno (Nakadia, Sasha), all stitched together with exquisite vocal cuts from, of course, Just Her.

Few artists have shaped the birth and evolution of dance music like Dave Seaman. With a career spanning over three decades, he has left an indelible mark on both the club and pop scenes, crafting unforgettable musical moments that resonate long after their creation. As the inaugural editor of Mixmag, he played a pivotal role in amplifying the voices of a generation swept up in the electronic music revolution. From headlining festivals like Creamfields to collaborating with icons like Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys, David Bowie, New Order, and U2, Seaman has been a constant presence on the global music stage, performing in over 80 countries. 

Seaman's journey began in 1990 at Shelley's in Stoke, where he shared the stage with emerging talents Sasha and Laurent Garnier during the heyday of acid house. Teaming up with producer and friend Steve Anderson, the duo recorded as Brothers In Rhythm, birthing the seminal rave anthem ‘Such A Good Feeling’ which became a UK Top 20 hit, while also issuing the landmark ‘Mixmag Live Volume’ 1 with Carl Cox in 1991 – a release that stands as one of the first ever commercially available mix compilations. Without a doubt, his relationship with Renaissance is one of the most renowned in dance music, with Seaman having contributed 10 mixes to the revered series. Global Underground view the Brit in a similarly lofty light, having secured his services to mix their Melbourne, Buenos Aires, Cape Town & Lithuanian volumes. 

When it comes to labels- Stress Records and Audio Therapy are two defunct imprints that definitely are no strangers to the biggest names in the electronic music worldwide. Today, Dave Seaman’s passion to exhibit boundary-breaking talent is as strong as ever. Via the independent record label Selador Recordings which he co-owns with long-time friend, Steve Parry, his inspired A&R has helped nurture some of the finest groove-merchants in dance music, releasing many different colors of house and techno. The label’s roster speaks for itself, with Hernan Cattaneo, Rodriguez Jr, Robert Owens, Timo Maas, Danny Howells & Hannes Bieger all contributing tracks and remixes recently.
In this current world of limited shelf life, ever-diminishing attention spans, and fast-moving, here-today-gone-tomorrow disposable club culture, it is the mark of true talent and dedication that Dave Seaman is always on the frontline of electronic music.

The name Steven Weston is gaining more prominence, which is well overdue given his impressive career in music. His CV includes an engineering background working with artists ranging from drum and bass act Rudimental to reggae artist Chronixx, while he’s toured the world playing keyboards for the likes of Ladyhawke, Charli XCX, and Mikky Ekko. Weston also counts James Lavelle as a fan, having regularly collaborated with the veteran for 10 years now. But his passion lies in deep, progressive music, and since entering the arena he's signed to labels such as Anjunadeep, Bedrock, and Last Night On Earth.

With tracks from GMJ, Durante, UNKLE, and Duo State, this Balance Selections mix highlights a music purveyor who lives and breathes the intricacies of the sound he has dedicated himself to.

Despite having known each other for the best part of two decades, Luke Brancaccio & Steve Parry surprisingly, didn’t actually formally meet until 2018. It will come as no surprise however to learn it was their shared passion for dance music that eventually brought them together. 

It could have all worked out differently when back in 2005, Luke didn’t make it to a gig Steve booked him for at his infamous Alderaan nights in Liverpool but that’s a story for another day and their friendship continued to flourish online, blossoming further when Selador signed one of Luke’s tracks for the label’s 5th Birthday project.

It was around this time that the idea of a collaboration was mooted which is where our story gathers pace. The result, as you’d expect, is something special as the duo draw upon their combined wealth of DJ, clubbing and production experience to create a peak time juggernaut by the name of ‘Control Machine’. 

This straight-for-the-jugular beast is also accompanied by a rather large remix courtesy of Brazilian legend, Renato Cohen who builds upon the original’s relentless bassline adding yet more power and energy. 

Together, it’s a double barrelled weapon alert!

Steve Parry is unquestionably at the top of the UK scene, regularly playing along side heavy weights such as John Digweed, Sasha, Dave Seamen, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J, he is the DJ’s choice of DJ.

Widely respected across the industry, his acclaimed 3 year residency at the iconic Cream in Liverpool, seen him rise to the top, regularly being booked to headline around the world, playing in clubs such as Ministry of Sound and the legendary Space Ibiza.

His ties to his home city of Liverpool are strong, where he managed the world famous 3Beat Records, and as a promoter, Steve had much success, firstly with his legendary ‘Alderaan’ nights which ran from ’97 – 2001 in a room above the infamous Lemon Lounge and helped to shape the very scene Liverpool has become known for to this day.

Now in between touring the world, Steve and long term friend and business partner Dave Seamen head up the Selador label, with many chart toppers under their belt already and many more to come.
