Ben Searles is a composer, engineer, producer, mixer and performer/DJ living on the west coast of Canada just outside Vancouver on the Sunshine Coast. His musical roots run deep and his journey started at a young age in rural southern Ontario Canada. Starting first with classical music in piano followed by flute he later turned his attention to percussion and drums. As he grew older his thirst to hear new sounds and curiosity lead him into the realms of electronic music. It was this immersion in electronic music and DJ culture that furthered his interest into engineering and a deeper understanding of producing.
Building on a growing catalogue of successful releases with his brother Josh and their bass music duo DAEGA SOUND (over 50 releases vinyl, cd and digital including a #1 release on Dubstep pioneer Hatcha’s Hatched label on Juno Download Dubstep Charts) they are set to release some exciting records over 2020 including a remix from one of the UK’s most well-known dubstep originators.  Simultaneously Ben has delved deeper into his curiosity with his own solo project SELA exploring bass music spanning genres and tempos. With new collaborations with Vancouver’s Knautic and a remix from DJ MADD in the 105 BPM range, the stage is set for new explorations into deep bass territory for Ben.
The quest to learn more in the engineering and production worlds has at the same time led him to west coast studio The Farm where he mentors, engineers and programs with and for music producer GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against The Machine, Biffy Clyro, Red Hot Chillipeppers). Spending time making records and learning from GGGarth continues to be an invaluable experience and has already seen Ben work on his first Gold record coming from their work on Kensington’s “Time” album that was produced by GGGarth and mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Paul McCartney) released late 2019.
Looking ahead 2020 will be an exciting year for Ben as he begins touring SELA in addition to upcoming shows with DAEGA SOUND and a full schedule in the studio.
