Proving that experience doesn’t mean repeating ideas, real-deal UK underground legend Warlock comes strafing into the PM+ series with some wild new styles for your hard-jacking pleasure. As Warlock, Jason Alexander has been pushing his own deep-rooted take on rave since the 90s with a particular slant towards electro, breaks and bass, but his pirate radio credentials reach back to the late 80s when it was all kicking off. 

Warlock would get a pass for just sticking to the squat-friendly, moody n’ mischievous gear he’s rolled out for years - it’s consistently excellent, after all. But here he demonstrates a razor-sharp sidestep into modernist forms which take the premise of bass and bleeps into fresh rhythmical territory. 

From the pointillist arps and nimble drum machine flaring of ‘Stinger’ to the brutally managed bass throb and spine-tingling high frequency ticklers of ‘Rush Rush’, Warlock’s gutsy sound passes through a measured amount of minimalism, nodding in the skittering patterns to footwork futurism and yet still sounding wholly schooled in the dimly lit, graffiti-caked climes of parties on the fringes of society. The unique spot where Alexander lands this fresh approach is right in the orbit of PM+ - an alarmingly natural fit for such brilliantly unnatural music.

Lab Music 4th record is a solo EP by Slak with a massive Answer Code Request remix, exploring the world of ambient-rooted break-techno with a drum and bass excursion in the remix.

On the A side, we find the first two tracks, Reflexion a club-oriented break-techno track, combining dark ethereal textures with driving beats and sharp synths. Before Midnight, is an elegant yet powerful gem with tribal reminiscences, Roland drums and light pads.

On the B side, we have New Horizon, delivering melodic ambient rooted pads and the usual 909 broken beats. Furthermore, we have a special drum and bass-rooted remix of the same track from Answer Code Request, exploring Idm and d’n’b, combining dreamy moments with strong breakdowns.

Labour Jacks is a new sublabel of One Eyed Jacks focusing more on techno and club tools, with artworks based on found, accidental art created by labour. The first few releases will showcase glue patterns found in ripped off plaques, where the gesture of the glue application by workers can be quite beautiful and graceful, even if unintentionally.

The first release comes from label-owner himself Photonz, a mainstay of the Lisbon scene and a prolific artisan of weird bangers and genre-hopping, left-of-centre underground dance music. On “Dark Valley”, this seasoned Portuguese producer focuses on raw techno rollers that manage to incorporate influences as wide as 90’s UK techno, aquatic Detroit melodies and even some orchestral grime hooks to good measure.
