Live From The Boogie Blind Residence

This mix is very special to me as it is dedicated to the honor of the late great J Dilla. I made this to showcase the versatility & amazing quality of work from one of the greatest producers of all-time. 
   From emerging from the gritty city of Detroit to showcasing his genius to the entire world before his passing at age 32, Dilla (also known as Jay Dee) always kept his love for all forms of music front and center. It's my honor and duty to continue to push music forward and keep his memory alive with everything I have in me. 
       I will post a tracklist soon but I want you all to just engulf the mix and embrace the rhythms. Music can truly change lives and we all must be creative in every aspect of our lives. Word to Dilla.

You ever forget about yourself? You're present – emotionally and physically – but not for yourself. There was a moment, a weeks-long moment, where I forgot about myself. I listened, I guided, I met expectations and deadlines, I broke down barriers, but not for myself. I asked others "how are you feeling?" but not to myself. I didn't know that this was happening until I was drained. I had to let myself break down, in order for me to build myself up. No ones gonna take care of me like I can. I can't take care of others unless I take care of myself first. I've been learning to keep more of me for me. I've been learning to love me better. I've been learning to focus on those who love me as much as I love them. This playlist is dedicated to self-love and to reminding myself that it's okay to not be okay. One of my favorite MC's of all time is Mos Def. The man was so damn fluid on the mic and actually cared about the things he talked about. A true poet. Growing up, it was very important for me to see people who were actually intelligent while still retaining that cool factor. I think many times in the black community, you equate a person being extremely well-read as either snobby and elitist or a straight sell-out with no self-awareness. Mos was able to shatter those misconceptions beautifully. The man is an award-winning actor, true mc, poet, and producer. And he does all of them with skill and a nobility.
