'It's strange, how the dances are changing' - Barrington Levy sang, referring to the new vibe that would slowly but surely replace the analogue sound with its digital counterpart. During the early to mid 80's, the music climate in Jamaica was in a state of constant flux. Studios were being updated and new producers were able to enter the scene, made possible in large by the new, more compact, studio setups and the decreasing need to hire live musicians. It was an exciting time and a very productive one - music was being released at an ever increasing pace and the sound was charged with anticipation and potency.

The CL-01 mix is centered around this period in time, just before the full reign of the computer when the Channel One studio was still the epicentre of Jamaican dancehall. It collects some of our favourite tunes from a collection of thousands of records, built over the last decade.

We hope that you will enjoy this mix as much as we did putting it together.

On March 18th 2013 the second single from the debut ‘Sunburst Radio’ LP - ‘Treat Me’ will be released in digital EP format alongside some rather special remixes, so here's a few clips of what's to come.

This tale of relationship frustration in a stripped-back Sixties Soul format was written for St Ives singer Lucy Richards (from the band Melodious Funk) and Patrick Redmond on Bass supplies a sound influenced by  his hero (James Jamerson) to fit a production style described as ‘stylish future retro’ by the Monkeyboxing.com blog. 

Italian vinyl maestro Suonho drops the original vocals into a vat of Salsoul disco glory, which, as expected, he delivers with great panache to create a version that you could imagine igniting Studio 54. Plus there's also a handy instrumental mix included on the EP too for those needing more of this great groove.

Fellow Cornish DJ compatriot Tenoshi (Skamla Motown) twists his remix into a Summer Ska anthem, adding additional toasting talent courtesy of Deemas J (collaborator with Wrongtom, Tru Thoughts Recordings). Tenoshi also displays his own musicianship in the new horn lines of his mix, selecting a sound ideal for his role as the official resident DJ for the sensational Jamaican Olympic Team at London 2012!

‘Treat Me’ will be released in all digital download formats on Wass Records in March 2013 via all major online stores including iTunes, Juno, Beatport etc. Buy Now links to the EP in these stores will be posted here as soon as they're in stock in March.

‘Sunburst Radio’ the debut LP from Daytoner is out now in vinyl, download and limited-edition CD digipak formats.
