Telekom Electronic Beats Hungary releases its second compilation album on 10  Jun 2022 full of skillful local talents on it, in the genres of POP, CLUB and EXPERIMENTAL. We couldn't have imagined that 900+ tracks would be submitted to our competition, keeping our judges up late into the night for days. It turned out, however, that the internal combustion engine of musical ideas is not at all limited to a few dozen people in our small little homeland: talent seems to be making its way in 2022, too, even if mass consumption or commercial radio stations have no interest in facilitating it. This new Electronic Beats compilation, available on all streaming platforms, is a celebration of these talents.

The forgotten legacy of Black September .

A more insensitive and ill-informed date and week than September 15th could not have been chosen by Washington and its Arab satraps in Abu Dhabi and Manama to sign the declaration that would agree to recognise Israel. This week not only marked the 38th anniversary of the infamous Sabra and Shatila massacres in the Palestinian refugee camps of Beirut which initiated the Israeli invasion of Lebanon; but also the 50th anniversary of the Black September massacre in Amman, which began on September 17th, paving the way for the exodus of Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) to Beirut and the gradual attrition of the Palestinian resistance.

The album is a part of the ongoing "Biosignatures" series of compositions and performances exploring sonic boundaries or interconnections between human-made soundscapes and receding or adapting nature within the climate crisis context. Field recordings collected along the banks and bridges of Wisła river in Warsaw, including utilizing electromagnetic or seismographic sensors and hydrophones, serve as the foundation for this performance. It spans from presentation of modestly altered recordings to highly processed audio or data-driven sound synthesis and everything in between. From far-away urban soundscapes to micro-sounds produced by flowing water, from ice and vegetation to birds, amphibians, and insects, all the way up to electromagnetic noise of city infrastructure and heavy bridge resonances.

The project was carried out under the artistic scholarship of city of Warsaw.

Paweł Kulczyński is both a musician and sound artist who specializes in creating sound installations, building instruments, and working with field recordings. He employs multichannel sound synthesis, projection, and composing strategies in his work and is particularly interested in the social and spatial contexts of music, the phenomenology of the audiosphere, acoustics, random events, and conceptualism. Recently, his compositions have featured motifs of mass extinction and planetary mourning. He has performed at prominent festivals in Europe and overseas, including CTM Berlin, Unsound in Kraków, New York, Toronto, and Bishkek, as well as Primavera Sound and recently at Gwangju Biennale.

Selected Sounds turned into a Label in 2016 focusing on forward-thinking Budapest-based producers and with the goal to introduce Budapest's developing music scene to the public.

Szelektor is a cooperation between Telekom Electronic Beats and Selected Sounds supporting Hungarian producers in the genres of Pop, Club and Experimental music.
