@jjsaunders brings us a Jazz, Funk & Disco inspired mix for our 93WAVES mix series! Having delved into his craft in 2017, James has been cultivating his sound and turning heads ever since.

His appreciation for these styles of music can be heard throughout his work in the form of live guitar and drum parts, as well as the unforgettable slinky sound of a Rhodes piano - which is often the key element in his compositions.

This is my DJ set recorded at the PIV Stage during Amsterdam Open Air Festival in June 2022.

The crew from PIV Records (@pivrecords) asked me to play a summervibe warmup set, the sun was shining and people were slowly dropping in and getting in the mood. 

I could take a nice dive into my vinyl collection playing a lot of the more low and medium energy tracks that I don't get to play that often. I tried to deliver a good mix of accessible summer tunes, more obscure cuts, some minimal groovers and kept it overall quite housey to keep the flow going through the set and bring the energy up to a nice level for all the awesome DJs after me.

Some 90s stuff, some house, some garage. I opened the set quite easy going, wanting to get a feel for how party-ready everyone was at the afters and how many people came in fresh. I started off with some more minimalistic grooves and after 30 minutes I felt that people were ready for more. After playing “Dress It”, which is always a party starter, the place lifted up and it was upwards from there with some sweet moments to catch a breath. Enjoy x
