Shaka's new drop on Selections is a delightful one that combines real jazz melodies with authentic deep house. Opener 'Sacred Church' (feat Eve - main mix) immediately wins you over with the buys keys, Rhodes chords and eco-system of cosmic synths that busy about while the soulful vocal oozes cool. Jon Cutler's Distant Music mix pairs things back and makes it more of a smoky late night sound and 'Shaker Games' then blisses you out with dusty drum depths and incidental chords that are magically feel good. 'Get Me Higher' shuts down with some superb US house vibes.

Reagan Grey is a Toronto-based producer who impresses with this cultured new outing on Selections. 'What You Came Here For' is pure vibes - a house cut with old-school organ stabs and hints of US garage drum shuffle, all topped with a nice hooky vocal cry from Kayenne. Kai Alce's NDATL mix layers in some jazzy keys that take things to the next level and 'Undertones' then keeps the soul quotient high with some molten chord work and dusty drum loops that are warm and heartfelt. 'Don't Stop' shuts down with a heavier basement house vibe and more smart synth work.

Following his appearance on the Special Edition EP back in 2023, Sean has delivered a brilliant homage to the 90's with "Did It For Love" We are also thrilled to have label boss Toronto Hustle making his Selections debut with his Late Night Dub version! Together, Sean and Mark (Toronto Hustle) have been making waves in the house music world with incredible releases on acclaimed labels including WOLF, Freerange, Local Talk, Soulquest and Ascension On Wax.

JUNO Review:

Sean Roman is a Toronto-based producer who has worked with Toronto Hustle before on an EP for Wolf Music. Here he serves up a club-ready crowd pleaser that shows his love for original UKG sounds. 'Did It For Love' on Selections rides on low-slung and well-swung drums with some nice tender vocals up top. The percussion is crisp and the groove drips with cool. Flip over this limited 12" and you will find a Toronto Hustle Late Night dub that pairs things back to some meaty drums and grittier textures, with the vocals more turned down and sparking synth motifs looping to bring some colour. Useful stuff.

Demuir is a firm part of the deep house world by now and always brings sounds that are as sophisticated as his alias suggests they should be. This time, he's heading up a new EP for Selections that opens with 'Free', a percussive sound with organic, live-sounding drums that are woody and funky with smooth vocals and pads up top. Oscar P reworks it with a heavier, house-driven low end but keeps some playfulness in the trumpets. 'Fate For Faith' is a warm and steamy mix of bongos and hard drums with muffled beats and cosmic synth rays that reach for the stars. A cuddly dub closes down what is a heartfelt and human EP.

We are thrilled to be kicking off the first Selections Label Invites of 2025 with Shael (Winnipeg)

Shael has been a strong supporter of Selections and we love her sound! Shael has given us a stellar VINYL ONLY mix showcasing a wide range of underground house music and she pulled some serious digs!! Check out her bio and track listing below!

Shael ("Shy-Elle") is a Winnipeg-based artist with a true passion for house music and bringing people together on the dance floor. An established DJ in the Western Canadian underground dance scene for over two decades, Shael has brought her distinct style to an array of electronic music events, radio shows, and festivals in her hometown and beyond.

While specializing in all moods of house music, she aims to showcase a variety of sounds; from deep and classic house grooves, to disco and “bompin” house jams with a dash of breakbeats and garage, she offers musical versatility with an innate ability to program her DJ sets for any type of crowd or setting.

In addition to DJing, Shael collaborates with artists to host dance music events focused on showcasing underground music and artists, and currently promotes with Proper YWG in Winnipeg.

Shael continues to foster connections with artists and music fans throughout the underground community and remains dedicated to spreading joy through music.

We have decided to interrupt our regular release schedule to get fully involved in change. Selections is very proud to announce ‘The Movement EP’ This is a Various Artists EP that includes tracks by Kai Alće, Demuir, Nick Holder and 83 West (Tyrone Solomon x Martino Lozej). We are using this platform for more than just music, for real change. We are extremely pleased to announce that 100% of the proceeds from this EP will be donated to Black Lives Matter. All four artists have graciously and enthusiastically donated each track for this very important release. Juno distribution will also be donating 100% of their proceeds as well. Artwork has been designed & donated by Selections artist Jamn Ensemble. We want to use this time to give back to black culture, as this music is rooted in black culture and without that we wouldn’t have this platform to begin with. Systemic racism is real. Police brutality is real. We will always fight to support our brothers and sisters around us, to uplift through music, and to use this as platform to educate and progress. By purchasing this record, you are a part of the movement!
