This summer, the yearly carnaval in Rotterdam apparently tried to ban an entire genre due to it's "vulgar dance". 

The genre they were talking about is Bubbling.

Initially the sped up Dancehall riddims by DJ Moortje, it inspired a whole generation of Surinamese and Antillean youths in Holland. Later they mixed it with electronic elements, until it became a somewhat uncredited source of inspiration in Dutch electronic music. 

Fortunately there is finally a resurgence in the sound nowadays.

However, the most interesting part of Bubbling remains obscure. This was the soundtrack behind the Bubbling battles in the 90's. Dancers would face off 1-on-1 to these beats. By recontextualizing popular tracks, most got their own custom track for the occassion. 

It's as slowed down as the Chopped and Screwed beats of DJ Screw, while equally having the fast chopped up processing of Jungle and the mashed up flair of Breakcore. 

This hybrid sound which uses the riddims as breaks, is completely unique to Holland. Why is nobody making it?

Eyescream seemed to have that thought as well. After working on the concept for over a year, he presents his vision on Battle Bubbling. Without watering down the sound, he brought it back into 2023.

Involving Drill and Moombahton elements, while casually switching it up into Surinamese rhythms and Amen breaks - it's all in there. On one of the tracks you'll even hear DJ Blass styled Reggeton of the '00.

"Naffie Back"

After hearing "Tupac Back" a couple of years ago I knew exactly what to do; "Naffie Back". This concept lingered in my mind for too long, so in March this year I finally made it happen. Instantly dropped a preview on Soundcloud too, because wtf happened to that Naffie drop?

There was a time that upon hearing the Naffie drop you knew - the club is about to be destroyed. Previously I made two VIP's of my favorite classics in the form of "shoutouts". These were literally to just be able to hear the Naffie drop in the clubs again. I recall hearing the "Blow Your Speakers" remix for the first time. This changed my life. I recall hearing the "Satisfaction" remix for the first time. I almost cried due to the amount of that my mind was being blown. So in making the 3rd shoutout of the series, the intent was to make a track that was going to be something like a ultimate shoutout that covered each aspect since this dude did so many genres. The mother of all shoutouts lol! Just the thought alone had me smiling.

So instead of rebranding it or watering it down into the 1.000.000th new genre, imma call it exactly what it is - Bubbling. More like Bubbling O.D. while you're at it lol with references to the Bubbling dons Shaun D, Master D and De Schuurman. Hopefully they'll all bless the world with new Bubbling tracks, cause nobody does it quite like them - SHOW THEM HOW ITS DONE.

"Pa Lo Under"

I used to listen to Reggeton's Dembow rhythm on my walkman all day. Obsessively learning all I could about Reggeton. Fuck it's crazy, back then all the producers were on the same old forum talking shit to eachother. I even hear the sounds I posted back then scattered in packs or even in productions over the years. This is for all the trademark sounds, all the homegrown labels, shitty VST's that were only used for Reggeton, the limited sound palette you had to use over and over again, the creative ways to sing the most retarded lyrics and most of all the Reggeton singers that couldn't sing for shit!

Nothing is as fun as making a Reggeton track. So I present to you another one of those ultimate shoutouts lol. Covering all my favorite Reggeton producers in a Moombahton setting, stuffing it with an impossible amount of references to shout them out haha. You know who you are!

So salute to the Reggeton kings, while throwing on my FUBU clothes for one last time to keep on grinding in this sandungueo. HA!

Fuck bro, it's fucking amazing to see shit evolving once again. Got me feeling like a Pokemon master n shit. This variation of Moombahton / Afro that is really popular here in Holland (read; destroying clubs/charts the last 2 years) is interlinked with everything. Who would've thought that the tresillo rhythm would be accepted in this manner?! I mean nowadays even Enrique Iglesias on the radio getting pretty on Reggeton, still wanting to be a hero for the bb's and shit. But I ain't talking about that shit - it's what's happening here tho. When I made the Trap Bubbling mixtape a couple of years ago, this was exactly what I was hoping for. Trap vocals on top of them Bubbling beats. I'm smiling while fucking typing this, since on top of that rhythmwise what's "the beat" that is being used on every single one of these tracks, ain't even Bubbling. Matter of fact, this type of beat reminds me of the Reggeton beats of early 2000.

In Korsou you also had the Reggeton poppin, but the only difference was that they also had the heavy influence of Bubbling. I never really considered it to be Reggeton, since it was in it's own league. I mean, they followed the Reggeton trends and all of that, but always with their own melaza added to this rhythm. Fast forward to today and you got the Afro shit poppin. So you got those 2 sides being merged and create what is the sound that is destroying the lyfe over here. It's straight up the same shit you hear in the clubs as an actual track, defining it without overpolishing and fu-pop-cking it up.

Finally rappers seem to get the sound, skipping the entire hands-high-super-glittery-buildup-with-pretty-chords-while-in-jesus-pose bullshit. Life's good. Man I remember that I was being told this bullshit years ago; "Yeah this is great - but you need to add some chords and pop vocals". For the ones who know my unreleased shit - he was talking about "Tempo Got My Back". Bro that sample was by a dude that was in jail like 10 years for the shit he rapped. You had to see the look on my face yo lol!

So in a sense this lineage has Bubbling written all over it, so what is cooler than - adding even more Bubbling to it lol! The thing is that I made this shit in a Trap Bubbling context with Antillean Reggeton and Papiamentu Rap in mind. Then in some weird turn of events recently the Moombahton / Afro rhythm popped off. Beautiful shit man. So I got the fam on the vocals to top it off and add to the lyfe.  So s/o to the old, s/o to the new, s/o to Korsou producers, s/o to the Afro producers, s/o to the newskool Moombahton producers, s/o to the Korsou influences, s/o the fam.
