A key component in the founding of Metalheadz, Doc Scott is as much part of the history of Drum and Bass as any other figure you care to name. Working alongside his friend and fellow West Midlander Goldie, Scott helped cement the genre as arguably the most exciting musical movement of the 90's, with rules seemingly broken on a weekly basis in pursuit of enlightenment at 170BPM. The ceaselessly future facing ethos of that label has echoed throughout his career, with Scott's continual work on the deeper of the spectrum finding him often sat right at the cutting edge. His own 31 Records has served as a hotbed for fresh talent across its two decade run, with Commix, S.P.Y, Klute and Artificial Intelligence just some of the names to feature. Forever with his ear to the ground, Scott's popular run of 'Future Beats' podcasts culminated at the tail end of last year with an impressive compilation of brand new music.

Although responsible for cast-iron anthems in the shape of 'Shadowboxing' and 'Here Comes The Drumz', Scott considers himself a DJ first and foremost - with his sets at 'Headz' seminal Blue Note Sunday session and Fabio and LTJ Bukem's Speed often talked about in hushed tones by DnB vets. Before he goes back to back in Room 3 with Source Direct this Friday 27th March at fabric, we cornered Scott to drop Hyp 218. Packed with exclusives from start to finish (no tracklist on this one), its a deep and soulful outing from one of the best in the business.

We've all heard about slow/fast at this point, but what about slow/slow?

For the last FACT mix of March, two artists who've made more moves than most in jungle of late - Londoner Fracture and Manchester staple Chimpo - slow things down. Way, way down. In Fracture's words, "this is a slow motion mix. The idea came from wanting to fit a load of music we had got together into a mix but having to slow some down to make it work". So there's music from all across the musical spectrum - from Björk, FKA Twigs and Boards of Canada to Mumdance, Novelist and Wiley; hell, there's even an airing for 'Midas Touch' - but very little of it sounds as you know it.

A comment on our medicated generation? An online mix that finally taps into that "dull, empty feeling" we're all left with when we stare at a screen all day? Nah, it's probably just because a ton of shit sounds cooler when its slowed down. Make sure to check Chimpo and Fracture's recent Metalheadz single, Chimpo's Monkey Teef mixtape and Fracture's label Astrophonica.
