This piece was inspired by my time spent struggling to adjust to life in a new environment, the city, where everything was comforting and yet alien at the same time. I realised I was out of my depth early on, but it just kept getting worse. If it sounds autumnal at all, that's because it is. I arrived at university during October, and I used the nostalgic tone of autumn to capture the feeling of longing for everything I left behind.

"The leaves seem to know where they're going when they fall from the trees. I wonder whether they realise how hostile the ground will be?"

This piece was brought about from a desire to simply make something like a barcarole in a chiptune medium. It initially started off as a piano composition for a music exam, but after many revisions this is supposedly its ultimate form. Somewhere along the way I realised it resonated with me - it felt like the chaos inside your brain when you're juggling more balls than you can handle. That's what it means to me.

"No matter how mad it gets, you have to keep dancing. One foot out of place and it's game over. How long before we all collapse?"

This track started off as a remake of an old track I made: Lost to the Ebony was originally an environmental track themed around a misty forest but it was badly paced and needed rewriting. Well, this has become far more than a remake to me. It is entirely its own beast, far outshining its predecessor, and it just reminds me of the times I've stayed up all night at the expense of my sanity to get a piece of work done by the deadline. The title is the motto of my first university friendship group - "sleep is for the weak".
I think that speaks for itself.

"There is only one solution for falling behind. Operating at full capacity, half the time, isn't enough to catch up... Sleep is for the Weak."

I initially made the prototype for this piece because harpsichords are cool, and I wanted to experiment with ornamentation in chiptune music. However, I developed it further to suit the imposing elegance of Oxford University. Aesthetically, it is beautiful and culturally rich, but there's no escaping that its systems are outdated and its whole vibe is elitist. You can almost feel its alumni standing over you, watching you work, telling you to study harder.

"We stand on the shoulders of giants. Respect them, and walk in their footsteps. One day, you will accompolish what they thought impossible."

What's the one thing that's quick and easy and finally clears your head of all of your problems? Ignoring them of course! Except... escapism doesn't actually clear your head of those problems, does it? They burn into the back of your mind until the searing pain forces you to confront reality yet. And the problems have grown while you ignored them and now they're more terrifying than ever. You could face them before they get even worse... or you could hide again? Maybe it's worth it, just this once, just for that brief moment of reprieve...

Bill and Discord's plan to create chaos within the competition has already begun, and they've started by pissing off King Slime, calling him nicknames that brought him back to his younger days of being bullied by the stronger slimes. He's not having this again, so he challenged them to a "musical duel." Perhaps there isn't enough space to have a real duel on a plane, nor would it really be a fair match. Bill laughed at his petty challenge, but Discord insisted they go through with it as he's always had a knack for theater. Alas, Bill agreed, but only if he got to pick a majority of the songs, of course!

Conga Machine

I compose chiptune music first and foremost, and I try to give my pieces a rich atmosphere with emotional depth. I want to apply this style originating from retro video games to telling stories that are personal to me. It's not what most people think of when they hear words like "8-bit" or "Video Game Music" but I know tons of games with extremely emotive soundtracks, and I suppose I'm trying to distil those influences here. Maybe my work will resonate with you, and hopefully it'll get you dancing as well! I am available for game soundtrack composition in addition to my more personal releases.

One project I have on the backburner right now is the soundtrack to Deralight, an indie game which I conceptualised but which is not currently being worked on. I've linked the discord below anyway, as I post regular updates on my other projects there too!
