GIFKIKKER is a Brussels based collective and label that fuses roughness and bite with depth- and clarity. Sometimes quality arises in strange places, and in Spain Asturias has proven this maxim. Both a cradle and a destination for top names like Reeko, Oscar Mulero, and more, it boasts a formidable history in Spanish techno. Hugo Rolan is another Asturian producer of similar mindset whose modesty conceals a long germination spent learning his craft precisely. A DJ in the local underground scene for decades, he emerged in 2022 rapidly releasing quality full lengths and EPs on respected imprints like Warm Up, Axis, Semantica, Nachtstrom Schallplatten, and many others. Holograma Humano displays his studied sound over eight tracks of science fiction themed techno, a perfect alignment for From Another Star. Following a short, searchingly dark intro, ‘Escritura Imparcial’ launches into a distinctly Spanish space age, with looped melodic and bass figures grounding decidedly more alien treatments in the percussion and upper registers. ‘Vacio Compartido’ explores strange fields of bleeps ricocheting in varying pitches across the stereo field, letting immersive detailing draw in the listener. A woozy deep space flight propelled by subtle changes in the hats, ‘Avance Cosmico’ gains momentum on its way through careful addition and intermixing of parts. The echoed vocals in ‘Cuadricula Terrestre’ immediately suggest classic sci-fi sounds, and Rolan delivers an immaculate homage to that style with revolving phasers, drifting pads, intermittent outbursts of delayed claps, and sporadic bleeps. After another dystopian interlude ‘Velocidad Inexacta’ returns to a lusher, layered soundscape as the groove slowly assembles from subtle changes in parts into a driving techno blast. ‘Sección Inicial’ voyages home on lush pad chord changes and funky interplay between bass & percussion, gradually pulling in for a smooth landing at the base.

Convergence: Chapter III marks the final installment in trilogy exploring the depths of hypnotic and transcendental techno. Bringing together four voices — Ness, Red Noise, Andrea Zapata, and Solarmental. This closing chapter encapsulates the essence of the Convergence journey: unity through sound, movement through atmosphere, and transformation through rhythm.

Evolving from introspection to intensity, Chapter III completes the ritual with precision and grace. Each track contributes a distinct pulse, yet together they form a coherent narrative - one that dissolves boundaries between mind and motion, and brings the trilogy to a resonant conclusion.

PREMIERE : Red Noise - Metamorphism

Hannover-based  platform Synergie has been a steady contributor to the techno scene for the past 5 years. Birthed as a label & party series, they later began hosting track premieres & launched a mix series called Syncast which has over 270 episodes. The platform has an emphasis on the rawer, faster, groovier side of things & they really have their finger on the pulse for what’s bubbling up underneath the surface in their corner of techno. 

Up next on their label is an EP from Tommaso Arcuri, a producer from Empoli, Italy, a town on the outskirts of Florence. The release features 6 high-energy rollers that fit like puzzle pieces into different moments throughout the night. ‘Veleno Per La Mente III’ has this crystalline ear candy sound that starts right at the very beginning of the track & repeats throughout as a rhythmic accent. That little sound immediately reminded me of something from a sci fi movie, akin to a Star Wars blaster or a door of an air lock slamming shut. It’s the real hook of the track & your ear never tires of it. It almost feels like you can reach out & grab it out of thin air. The more you listen, the more it draws you into a state of eyes-closed hypnosis. 

‘Veleno Per La Mente’ is available on Synergie on October 24th.
