kalimat slogan yang akrab di masyarakat Jawa pernah begitu populer pada masa kemerdekaan. Bung Karno acapkali menggunakannya dalam pidato-pidato yang dikumandangkannya. Kalimat itu sebenarnya berasal dari Don Loppis Comte du Paris, seorang kapten Belanda yang mengawasi kerja rodi jalan Anyer-Panarukan.

Kapten yang berasal dari Paris, Prancis, ini sering meneriakkan kalimat ini untuk ‘mendorong’ pekerja rodi lebih keras lagi bekerja. Karena sering diteriakkan itulah, kalimat itu menjadi familier dan berubah menjadi holopis kuntul baris

The name of Semar Mendem is taken from the famous puppet character, namely "Semar." While the word "Mendem" comes from Javanese which means drunk.
When the two words are combined, it means "Semar who is drunk."

What is the philosophy embodied like Semar?
Semar is a Panakawan figure who symbolically teaches about how to be a good human or leader. These various qualities and teachings include: the leader will not glorify his descendants and origins, the leader has to (temuwo) think, and has a broad and deep vision.
