I’ve been a fan of Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for many years. I remember when ‘Show Your Bones’ came out in 2006 and I first heard “Phenomena.” The drums specifically, played by Brian Chase, triggered something in my brain and helped shape the way I play to today. I saw them perform at FYF Fest in LA in 2013. Incredible show. The sound was so powerful, and the band was able to convey so much color and energy through some relatively simple structures and arrangements. One of those bands where the skill and technical ability is in the details. A lot of people can play YYYs songs, but no one can play them like the YYYs. 

Anyways, I decided to have some fun and put a few hours into  a cover of “Gold Lion.” I did my best as a dude and a drummer to sing Karen’s part, but like I said above, there ain’t no-one doing those vocals justice who isn’t called Karen-O. I hope at the least I was able to spread a little YYY’s love through this cover, and encourage even more people to listen to their music.
