Ode To The King - Dott Com & Bear Twists

All the fourteen tracks building their music were recorded on analog equipment with rare vintage instruments at Mato studio in Paris. Influenced by the Nuyorican’s maestros from the seventies, the band was also keen to create his own Futuristic-Latin-Soul sound. Going through a long and meticulous recording process, the band deeply wanted to focus on the “Sound”, and they trusted to do so. Known as a DJ Vas member of Electro-Funk band , he’s mixed the entire album with his famous skills for deep analog Kojack sound and dancefloor club energy.

From the successful live experience and the great human meeting between Orlando Julius and Setenta’s members, followed a strong desire to record together. Quickly they decided to rearrange his famous “Ijo song, taken from the Soul” Super Afro Soul album he recorded in 1966 for Philips. A song which blew the king James brown himself during his trip in Nigeria in 1970 and influenced him for the composition of his “I Feel Good“ classic. This track perfectly sum up the rich energy and raw power bubbling in the Orlando Julius compositions, effortlessly blending together Afro Soul and Yoruba swing. Now here comes Ijo Soul 2013! 
Led and composed collectively, the album straddles  Latin, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, modern creative Jazz, and psychedelic Boogaloo, with a percussive and strong vocal section. The album also contains two covers that reflect the eclecticism of the band. First they decided to take on the Hip-Hop classic, interpreting the original Galt MacDermot’ Woo Hah!!! Got You All In Check composition with a funky Mambo version - and Busta Rhymes flies to the tropics! - Then the smash hit Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana, is revisited with a massive Boogaloo touch, ready to hit radios (playlisted on FIP and Radio Latina among others) and dancefloors from all over the world.
 
With this pulsating and rhythmic album, SETENTA gives us a modern definition of Salsa and Funk.

The Funky Latin Band  from Paris  is  back with a  second explosive album, which sounds like a future masterpiece of Latin Soul!

Moar - Samba Del Mar (Remix)

Heavyweight Gambit, Nol Holds Barred' is the 11th compilation coming out on the Paris DJs label, and the second one digging into Funk & Soul music for the Paris DJs Soundsystem crew. A lot of tracks landed in the label's mailbox (thanks to everyone who participated!), choices had to be made, and until the last minute it was tough decisions. After many delays in adjusments and fine-tuning of this selection, this new compilations finally out, right on for Halloween 2015! The artwork depicts a stoned and scary wrestler, doesn't it? As suggested by this new, fantastic piece of visual art from French illustrator Ben Hito, the selection gathers psychedelic funk, soul for freaks, foot stomping beats, heavyweight breaks, thrilling grooves, hip hop coolness, fuzzy sounds and more...

Some of the bands/artists were already featured on Paris DJs finest selections, from compilations to mixes, reviews or remixes. Our readers and listeners should indeed start to get excited just hearing the names Connie Price and the Keystones, Breakdown Brass, Q.A.S.B., The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, STEPAK-TAKRAW, Grant Phabao, RacecaR, The Echocentrics or J. Whitefield. All people with a heavy sense of classicism in their funky productions, with sound aesthetics close to ours, whom we're so proud to feature here. The ever-exanding family from the Paris DJs universe has answered our call once again, sending a whole bunch of new, often unreleased, killer tunes, and it feels GOOD.

The "discoveries" — at least for us — are also a delight, don' let us fool you. It was hard to pick a tune between the 3 San Fernando, CA funk unit Soul Scratch sent. Great things to come from them soon for sure! East Oakland-based Soul-Hop singer Baby Jaymes does sound quite close to Michael Jackson. His cover of 50 Cent released last year on a limited 45 is a scorcher and we hope to start collaborating with him as soon as possible. It would be very interesting to hear him sing on some reggae production from Grant Phabao…. Alex Puddu is a Copenhagen-based Italian producer we had on our radar for some time now. His Soultiger project is a treat, and from the album released earlier this year was extracted for a 45 release an original composition featuring the legendary Joe Bataan on vocals. It took us some convincing, but we couldn't pass on getting this track in here. The tune is very addictive, and Mr. Bataan's voice so unique, so purely soulful! There's also Italian soundtrackish funk from La Batteria, French P-Funk band Horndogz featuring Parliament/Funkadelic/Drugs singer Clip Payne, and we close this new chapter feets in the sand, with a relaxing piece of Samba Funk from Dambô & Pauliño Nunes in Recife, Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil. This music is good for you.

French Toast For Two

Long time collaborator and resident DJ of the UKs longest running club funk and soul promoters, Jelly Jazz. Also exploring new style of clubbing with Rambunctious Social Club project in the southwest of Britain. Recently returned from 16 months in latin America traveling with my wife and collecting sounds as I go with a Sony PCM D50 handheld field recorder. We made a baby in Peru who was born back in England last June...a daughter! So time is short now...I'll be fitting music whenever I can. 

REQUEST FOR HELP and ADVICE:  I see Soundcloud as a fantastic learning opportunity. I'm the first to admit I'm a beginner at production. If there are any half competent producers out there that can clearly hear problems with my tunes or things that I could improve on then PLEASE do let me know. I'm not proud. It can be incredibly difficult to get good advice about sound production so I greatly appreciate constructive criticism. Bear in mind I'm mixing on headphones at the moment. Also all of my remixes are additive in that I have to take the entire original and add parts to it. I can't take anything away because I don't have access to studio track files. But any help you can give me would be appreciated.  Cheers Griff
