Funky Destination is an exciting retro-styled funk project formed by Vladimir Sivc, also known as Mr. Louie. Hailing from the town of Osijek in eastern Croatia, early on Louie honed his guitar skills and started developing the funk foundation that would guide his sound. A move across Croatia to near the Adriatic Sea introduced Louie to new friends and encounters with turntables and DJ’ing. All of this came together to create Funky Destination, a full-on ‘party time’ project fusing live, organic instrumentation alongside classic-sounding beats, sending the dance floor into a nostalgic frenzy. 

Funkadelic Stereo Adventures is the latest Funky Destination album for Cold Busted and it fulfills on the evocative title’s promise. The set includes ten blazing tunes that bubble with choppy, wah-wah guitar, swinging drums and percussion, delicious horns and bass lines, and, occasionally, stirring vocals of the soulful persuasion. The album’s opener, “The Ocean Of My Mind”, is a prime example … lovely island-influenced vocals, disco strings, latin-influenced horns, and booming drums all combine for some serious heat. Other highlights include the ’70s soundtrack-worthy “Sweet Of Love”, the hip hop flavor of “The Game Of Shades”, and the gritty high speed chase of “Where Are The Blues Brothers”. Groove no further … you’ve reached your destination.

We're well into the tropical coastal belt now in Ecuador and there's no more huaynos...just salsa everywhere. This track is one I got off a pretty poor compilation years ago called Salsa heat...so poor in fact that this track was mis-labelled 'El Chisme' by Celia Cruz. I've since heard that track and this clearly isn't Celia Cruz which leaves me with no idea what this is. If anyone who knows their latin wants to tell me what the original track underneath this remix is...I'd be delighted to find out.

Long time collaborator and resident DJ of the UKs longest running club funk and soul promoters, Jelly Jazz. Also exploring new style of clubbing with Rambunctious Social Club project in the southwest of Britain. Recently returned from 16 months in latin America traveling with my wife and collecting sounds as I go with a Sony PCM D50 handheld field recorder. We made a baby in Peru who was born back in England last June...a daughter! So time is short now...I'll be fitting music whenever I can. 

REQUEST FOR HELP and ADVICE:  I see Soundcloud as a fantastic learning opportunity. I'm the first to admit I'm a beginner at production. If there are any half competent producers out there that can clearly hear problems with my tunes or things that I could improve on then PLEASE do let me know. I'm not proud. It can be incredibly difficult to get good advice about sound production so I greatly appreciate constructive criticism. Bear in mind I'm mixing on headphones at the moment. Also all of my remixes are additive in that I have to take the entire original and add parts to it. I can't take anything away because I don't have access to studio track files. But any help you can give me would be appreciated.  Cheers Griff

PS I've also started the 'Nueva Andina' group and will be moderating that to help promote the artists that are experimenting with modern forms of Andean music.
