Since 2014, Public Release has been enlisting the raw, trademark groove of Richard Sen on a variety of now- renowned remixes. Label boss Eug has cited him in numerous interviews as being one of his all-time favourite producers, so it was inevitable that a solo EP would eventually materialize. That time has finally come, and in the Spring of 2022, the UK legend drops his solo EP “My Definition of Funk” on Public Release.

These three raw, gritty, hard-hitting, peak-time tracks are quintessential Richard Sen, combining the energy and influences of post-punk, breaks, and house in one sturdy sonic package.

Recording of a demo mixtape I made in 1993 to give to club promoters. Most of the tracks are considered classics now but at the time were brand new or only a year or two old. Older DJs will know most of the tunes but for younger DJs, here's a chance to hear what we were playing 30 years ago.

The Do!! You!!! tent at Gala Festival is always the place to be - the best music, vibe and crowd so it was an honour to play there again. In my 30+ years of DJing this was one of the best gigs I've ever had. Unbelievable scenes, energy and appreciation. It went off! Respect to the Do!! You!!! crew. Ransom Note’s new label Dance Music From Planet Earth have just released ‘Richard Sen presents Dream The Dream: UK Techno, House and Breakbeat 1990-1994’. The British Indian DJ/producer/record collector is a music dance music veteran with a proper heavyweight CV, whose Zelig like history goes even further back. Speaking on his Bleep mix, Richard explains: “All the tracks that I chose for this mix are from 1988 - 1995. I tried to choose tracks that were musical, deep, druggy and still rough around the edges. This is a snapshot of the kind of music I was playing back then - a personal selection of some of my faves. I'd like to think that they all stand the test of time and I still play some of them out now.”

Not many have covered the ground like London's Richard Sen has. Starting his deep dive into the underground scene by being the much recognised Sen graffiti writer he has moved on over the years to be considered one of the UK's great selectors and DJ's. Having also released music under several guises, not only under his own name (which he also has wealth of huge remixes for artists like Bryan Ferry, John Grant, Unloved and LCD Soundsystem), but most notably under the phenomenal Padded Cell and the excellent Bronx Dogs. With his excellent weekly radio show on Charlie Bones' Do!! You!!! Radio station as well as dropping the award winning Dream The Dream (UK Techno, Breakbeat And House 1990-1994) compilation on Ransom Note, Sen finds himself with an even larger wealth of fans. With that being said we are delighted to welcome Richard Sen to the Off The Record mix series where he provides us with a 3+ hour journey taking us on a deep dive into his record selection providing styles of all kinda throughout. Richard Sen’s contribution to dance music is huge – and varied.  He designed the iconic sleeve to Sabres of Paradise’s ‘Smokebelch’ single, among many others, compiled a number of key compilations and, of course, made his own music as Bronx Dogs, Padded Cell and now under his own name.  Here he celebrates the recent arrival of his new LP - India Man – with a mix for Juno Daily.

Richard Sen, former London graffiti artist and 30-year dance-music maverick, has played everywhere from fetish clubs to festivals worldwide. His genre-fluid sets blend disco, Italo, house, electro, breakbeat and deep techno with unmatched depth and storytelling.
Known for Bronx Dogs and Padded Cell, his music has featured in GTA IV, HBO, and remixes for LCD Soundsystem and Bryan Ferry. His compilations This Ain’t Chicago and Dream The Dream earned major acclaim, the latter winning DJ Mag’s Best British Compilation of 2023.
With a weekly show on Do!! You!!! and his 2024 album India Man, Richard continues to push culture with taste and passion.

90s Techno mix

We were quite fan of mid 2000's Padded Cell releases on D.C Recordings at LYO and followed Richard Sen solo efforts since then. Richard Sen's last outing on [Emotional] Especial - the bleep revival brilliance of "Songs of Pressure" - was something of a stone cold killer, so hopes are naturally high for this belated follow-up. "Resistance Through Rituals" here premiered digs deep for inspiration, doffing a cap to the starry futurism of Detroit, psychedelic acid and the drum-machine driven jack of early Chicago house. Vinyls, and its splendid artwork, will land early march in all fine purveyors retailers of good music
