Groove Series - Vol. 1

What is Ghettotech?

Ghettotech, also known as Detroit ghettotech, is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Detroit, Michigan, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It combines elements of techno, house, hip-hop, and Miami bass. Characterized by its fast tempo, typically around 145–160 BPM, Ghettotech features repetitive, often explicit lyrics, and a heavy use of sampling. The genre emphasizes simple, yet energetic beats designed for dancing, reflecting its roots in Detroit's underground club scene.

Excerpt taken from "Ghettotech: A Detroit Love Story":

"In the 1980s, Detroit DJs and producers like Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson pioneered techno music. Soon into the creation of the genre, the city's musicians experimented with faster, bouncier and raunchier beats and lyrics. Their dare to be cutting edge led to the birth of techno subgenre Ghettotech.

DJs and producers such as Disco D, DJ Assault, Starski and Clutch, DJ Deeon, DJ Godfather and many more coined Ghettotech as Detroit club music or booty music in the late '80s and early '90s. The music is rooted from elements of Detroit techno, Chicago ghetto house and electronic, and Miami bass."

This is my first time ever mixing Ghettotech! I made sure to feature, for the most part, the pioneers of Ghettotech while also incorporating modern-day tracks. When curating Ritual of Desire, I knew I wanted it to be both sensual and dark. I asked myself, if I had the chance to perform at Berghain, what would I bring to the decks? 

Berghain is infamous for its intense, erotic atmosphere, a dream venue for DJs worldwide. I wanted this mix to embody the raw anticipation and mystery of stepping past the bouncer for the first time, venturing into its hidden depths. This is my sonic interpretation of that experience—I hope it fully captures the dark and sensual energy of the space.

At 1 hour and 29 minutes, this is my longest and most intense mix yet. A blend of hypnotic techno, hard groove, and hard techno, it pushes deep into raw, driving sounds and deep layers of energy. Featuring tracks from Modem, DJ Dextro, TineX, Linear System, Stef de Haan, David Lohlein, Narciss, Hadone, and more, this set is built to hit hard and stay sharp from start to finish.

Resonance

“Night Moves” in ORL marked my official debut, and I AM STILL processing all the love and energy that came my way. Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support—I couldn't have asked for a better crowd to share this milestone with.

I was nervous at first, especially because I've only ever played on my DDJ controller. But as soon as I touched the decks, something clicked.
The nerves faded, and I was in the zone.
Playing in a new space with standard club equipment was a challenge I'll never forget, but it was exactly what I needed to push myself further.

I'm also extremely grateful for the collectives that showed trust in me and gave me this incredible opportunity.
Thank you to everyone who believes in me, gives me feedback, and make me feel like I belong. The journey has just begun, and I'm only getting started.

SENSIBILIA FOR NIGHT MOVES (PT I - 04192025)

Recording of my 1.5 hour set for Domicile— a night that reminded me why I fell in love with this craft in the first place.

Mistakes were made, and I chose to leave them in. Because this moment wasn’t about perfection—it was about presence. It was about trusting the music and myself, even when doubt tries to creep in.

This set moves through hypnotic grooves, raw textures, and subtle shifts. Each one a reflection of where I’m at, and what I’m learning. Vulnerability, growth, and connection were all part of the mix.

It’s been a while since I curated a mix purely for the joy of recording, not because I lacked inspiration, but because I’ve been giving my energy to the present—time with friends, family, and my partner.
