Sentinel Sound - Dancehall Mix Vol 32 – Conscious Selection – Skankin` Sweet

You can't seperate Reggae and Dancehall from one another – they have always been two sides of the same medal.

However it's a fact, that ,for the last few years, Dancehall has been dominating the parties, the charts, and the radio stations.

That is also the reason why Sentinel put their famous „Conscious Selection" mixtape on pause for a year.

Right now, with a bigger pool of songs to choose from, the crew from Stuttgart released a brandnew One Drop version of their „Dancehall Mix" series, called „Skankin' Sweet".

The superb title track by Modern Roots superstar Chronixx is part of a formidable selection of Roots-, Lovers- and Reality-tunes by artists such as the legendary crooner Jah Cure or the highly talented newcomer Mortimer.

The 32nd edition of the „Dancehall Mix" is a great example of the immortality of classic Reggae music, but it's also a reminder, that, in our hype-addicted world, great music doesn't always get the recognition it deserves.

The 2012 edition of Sentinel's dubplate-only event DUBS FULL HUNDRED featured no other than the British soundsystem legend David Rodigan, who graced Stuttgart, Germany on Saturday, March 31st for this unprecedented event.
David „Ram Jam“ Rodigan and Germany's top soundsystem Sentinel played dubplates all night long on a gigantic soundsystem with 14000 watts of soundpower. Sentinel could win Rodigan's approval to take part in this incomparable showcase - both sounds played their most exclusive gems from their dubplate box as well as well-known signature dubs. It was the first time in history that Rodigan agreed to take part in an event like this.
DUBS FULL HUNDRED is meant to be for all the those dancehall reggae music lovers out there, who are hungry for „the real thing“. You will hear everything from Rub-a-dub style to Studio One, Dancehall troughout the decades, all presented on dubplate specials! Cut out the quarrel, cut out the cursing of nowadays clash events, this time it is just real music all night long.

Sentinel Sound presents Dancehall Foundation Vol. 4 – Digital Dancehall

Digital media, digital communication, digital currency - “Digital” is a word, that indicates innovation.
Therefore, it’s often used to describe the future of things.
However, in the Dancehall context it means pretty much the opposite:
Although current Dancehall, like most of the music nowadays, is produced digitally, “Digital Dancehall” stands for the style of Jamaican music, that was popular in the 80ies after the “Sleng Teng” riddim completely changed the aesthetics of Dancehall.
The studios, where until then bands like the Roots Radics produced the Riddimtracks for the vocalists, were now the playground for a new set of musical wizards like Steely and Cleevie who used keyboards and synthesizers instead of live musicians.
Fast forward to 2018:
The results of the creative explosion, caused by this generation change, are now the focus of the fourth edition of Sentinel’s Dancehall Foundation mixtape series.
47 tunes of raw energy and simple beauty, that give you a clue why the arrival of digital production technologies caused such an earthquake in the Jamaican music scene.
