With this mix I just wanted to present some music from my mates and their various labels but tie it together with some older stuff that still informs how I approach production. There's a good crew of people in, around, or connected to Manchester at the moment. Their output, as well as the many days and nights spent together within the bowels of The White Hotel have shaped this mix.  These tunes have a few elements in common, like: being a bit rude, having a kind of 'spooky' feel, being rhythmically playful whilst retaining as much forward momentum as possible.

Szare were formed during a game of darts at the Royal Oak pub in South Manchester. With the first transmission coming via a Horizontal Ground white label in 2009 under the 19.26.1.18.5 pseudonym, and have since released music under the Szare moniker through Frozen Border, Idle Hands, Field Records, Project 13, among others. Now operating out of The Peak District as the solo project of Andrew Diaczuk — with Jack Coulton retaining a seat on the security council as an occasional contributor —  the enigmatic bass-techno hybrid is gearing up to release some of it’s most ambitious and definitive works thus far, with an EP on Mumdance & Logos Different Circles imprint and two other as yet undisclosed releases lined up for 2018. Late last year saw an appearance on Tommy 47’s eponymous 47 labels most recent compilation; 47007, following up from an EP for Delsin’s off-shoot imprint Field recordings, alongside a slew of live dates and DJ shows across the EU.

Volpe is a young artist from Argentina inspired by the sounds of the ‘90s, moving between genres such as Detroit, Dub, Tribal and Hypnotic Techno.
His career began at the early age of 16, in the national underground scene, which would later lead him to play in renowned venues like Under Club, Cocoliche and Bahrein, sharing gigs with Eduardo De La Calle, Tadeo, Jonas Kopp, Seph, Andres Zacco, Zreik, Dying, Vladw, Zoffoli, Dijuma and many others. 
He managed to edit several of his productions on labels such as Subsist, Fabrik Music, Detox Electronics, Solemne Records, Al3 Movement, ROOM and Concepto Hipnotico, and thanks to his continous effort he was supported by artists like Ben Sims, Slam, Dax J, Jeroen Search, Tripeo, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, The Zenker Brothers, Pushmann, Subradeon, Francois X, Abstract Division, Nihad Tule, Jon Hester, OHM, Lag, VIL, Opuswerk, Gotshell, Blue Hour, El Choop and Thomas Hessler.
Now he is focused on his live presentations, in which he opted for the hardware format, providing an organic and powerful sound to his performance, and also playing as "Altered Memories", his project with Tomas Kunkel, in which he is resident on A-System.

For the first release, Giordano and Oniks, join their force together as ANAM.

Doppia faccia, where Erratic synths and tweaking patterns create an air of assonance throughout the track and sparse and minimalistic drums create the drive. FX laden hooks gather momentum as sub heavy drums and spacial atmospheres create the backbone.

Vertebrate leans more on a subtle build up of the elements as each piece gradually builds and delivers on high intensity.

Don’t fight in the night, brings a more melodic tip but still retains his standard tough drum workouts, soundscapes and breaks.

In the future, closes the first Senza nome release with high-speed rave sounds, counterbalanced by atmospheric melodies.

New year, new mix. Naks is starting the year fresh with a new addition to our mix series. He is co-founder of the Vortex Traks label and runs the Dreams of Neon party series.
