This is the In Brackets EP, by Dark Sky. It's our fifth release on the label. Dark Sky is a trio of musicians and producers from London. They’re the first non-Brooklyn artists on the label, and, funny story, when they first sent us music, we actually thought they were from Brooklyn. (Shows how much we know.) No matter where they’re from, they’re excellent, and the music they make has found itself perfectly at home on the Mister dancefloor.

All the great samplers of our time dug a bit of Brazilian. The most obvious suspects being beat-making legends, Madlib and the late great, Jay Dee; but other genre trailblazers - such as Drum & Bass’ beloved DJ Marky - also brought the music of Brazil to an audience that had perhaps not been exposed to it’s delights. Even fucking Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” was heavily influenced by Brazilian legend, Jorge Ben’s “Taj Mahal” - listen to it for fuck sake! (youtube.com/watch?v=Ex9jWJ5V014).

Another chap with an ear for a sample is the super gifted Adam Wickens aka Admin (@AdminUK). Also an aficionado for the nations sounds, the Bristolian has woven together a patchwork quilt of 100% Brazilian material, beaming with colour and zinging with spice - almost suspiciously in time for the summer sun. Easing you in with near lulabilic textures, Admin leads you on a sweltering sonic ramble through the winding nooks of Rio, stopping off for some Feijoada in the favelas and winding up on the Copacabana - Caipirinha in one hand, broken Havana’s in the other. Borderline offensive stereotyping aside, Adam’s mixtape is really one to be proud of and an essential accompaniment to any sun filled plans you may have. Enjoy.
