Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

Deciduous Love is an ode of gratitude to our son. Had I not been pregnant when my husband Robbie died, I truly believe I wouldn't be here.
The lyrics also talk about the pride I felt for the unfaltering love, care and support I gave to Robbie throughout his 2 years of gruelling cancer treatments, as well as in his last weeks. I never left his side, and I insisted on being one of the coffin pallbearers, with our little seed in my womb keeping me going. 
The recurring lyric "you saved me" is something Robbie said to me once in tears, because though his body was succumbing to the cancer, he felt he had found such true happiness, that our love and the promise of our child meant that we had in our own way won the war with the disease.

Deciduous Love

“Rest With Me” is a play on the saying “Rest In Peace”. The song is really about denial masquerading as hope, and was written almost as a lullaby to Robbie as I cared for him through chemotherapy, as well as in his last weeks. We never really talked about him dying, the way we got through was to keep planning for our future. Even when the ambulance arrived to take us to the hospice, we said to each other if we didn’t like it there we’d come home. Even when his heart stopped beating, my instinct was to try CPR and I couldn’t understand why the nurses were not rushing to take action. The duality of the knowing and denying of his terminal illness was a child-like coping mechanism, but it was also a beautiful comfort to us both.

From Sephine Llo's second album Diamond Fall, a concept album on her grief when losing her husband Robbie to cancer when she was pregnant with their first child. Part of the album explores Robbie's unfinished compositions (he was the artist Autumn Chorus), and this track she found on an old hard drive of his, and she included it just as she found it.

Face Your Heart Away (Autumn Chorus)

This single is about the feeling of paralysis and helplessness experienced in the early stages of my grief when shock and adrenaline dissolved. When the days of constant crying dissipated, I would sometimes sit in a state of numb despair, missing the initial raw pain because somehow that honoured the loss more truly. The words ‘how do you get up from an all time low?’ refer not only to being lost in depression, but to physically not being able to get up when in this state. This is taken from my forthcoming 2nd album "Diamond Fall", to be released 25th October, which would have been our 10th Wedding anniversary. This album feels in part a colaboration with my late husband Robbie (Autumn Chorus) as it includes samples of his unfinished works.

A Story That You Tell

Earlier this year we got into the studio with the virtuosic Otis Lumumba Tabasenge, Congolese guitarist extraordinaire for Kasai Masai and international superstar Kanda Bongo Man. 

Otis’s playing is nothing short of inspirational, and we loved it so much this track turned into a raucous, joyous five and a half minute ode to the music we love.

Funny Old World is a song for anyone trying to make sense of a loss in their life. Or, equally, anyone struggling to come to terms with events thousands of miles away, that nonetheless affect us all. A song for all those who feel alienated by the partisan politics that seems to have become the global standard.

Because however bleak it sometimes feels, the world keeps turning. And we need messages of joy and positivity more than ever.
