About this edit :
Oumou Sangare is a prolific and venerated singer from Mali known as “the Songbird of Wassoulou.  Her music is an inspiration to millions in Africa and across the globe, and she’s also a hotel owner, women’s rights activist and entrepreneur.  I became aware of Sangare in the late 90’s when I fell in love with her album “Worotan”—her music was a gateway to other Malian artists I grew to love, including Ali Farka Toure, Rokia Traore and Tinariwen.  This mid-tempo organic house edit starts with a broken beat intro and accentuates the hypnotic call-and-response between Oumou and her background vocalists.
