Cleveland-based artist DEFA contributes to the SQL catalogue with his Wax-Trax inspired release 'Alpha Translations'. His clean sound design and off-kilter arrangements make for intriguing and intelligent listening. Thick low-end and crisp percussive elements mixed with industrial-esque FX make a memorable impact. Josh Mace takes the vision of DEFA and applies it to a club setting on his take of 'Aeyah'.

Gene Mantua has been with us since our inception and we've also been with him as his sound evolves. A few years ago his style was scattered, almost like he had way too many ideas and his way to express this was to chop up arrangements and cue sounds in and out as if to force the listener into his own shoes. Reminiscent, even, of childhood memories explored and expressed on 'Moon-Glo All-Skate'.

Now we're seeing Gene take a more focused approached with steady and straightforward drums and arrangements that really get to the point rather quickly. 'Is This The Way?' captures the producers signature sound and expresses something within him almost holy and soul-seeking. A longing is expressed with digital strings and a relentless kick-drum beats on in front of sound FX that resemble quick bursts of memory. The listener is in almost a nightmarish state, but one that feels melancholic rather than horrific.

The team of remixers we've enlisted in this project took amazing approaches in interpreting the track in their own ways. Woozy, dreamlike, tribal, techno-influenced; This is a remix EP worth exploring!

It’s around midnight and the temperature outside of Cafe Bourbon Street is approaching an easy 70 degrees. Partygoers light up outside of Headcleaner, a monthly party in Columbus, Ohio, attracting heads with a taste for driving, bass-driven percussion tracks. There is a pause between sets inside the venue and the tension is palpable amidst heavy conversation between guests. danmakestracks is set to debut his first live appearance to a willing crowd packed to the brim with exceeding anticipation. The booming, rigid drum programming of the track ‘Scalpula’ starts echoing off the walls and clubgoers experience a tightenting in their chests. The performer has set the tone and for the foreseeable future clubgoers are locked into one hell of a ride.

Demongay adds to the SQL catalog with immensely creative production methods. Twisted drum programming and immense soundscapes are contrasted with science-fiction elements to create a blistering-paced EP that is highly unforgiving. The title track Quesloktedana wants you to think it's a smooth house groover but locks you into a lonely journey through the cosmos, picking up strange radio frequencies along the way, only adding to the desperate experience. Simmiedo absolutely blisters and devastates at light speed and leaves no prisoners. This track has to be experienced, but only in a flight suit. Great for those moments right before de-pressurization and stepping out of the airlock.

Exactly one year from our first So Tough release, we're provided tracks from Resting Cell (CLE) and once again by Llama A (San Diego).  The former fires up the analog gear to give us three different renditions of his track 'Comet', each with its own peculiar flare and drive, kind of low-fi and grungy and arranged for effectiveness. The latter provides three tripped out and stripped down techno tracks, all running long enough to be teased in and out of any mix and built with sturdy production techniques. This should serve DJs and those who like to sit back and drone out quite well.

Bart Rider (San Francisco) takes a minimalist approach on 'Late Nite Ride', opting for negative space within the track that gives it an entirely new feel. Josh Mace (Akron) furthers the original story of 'All I'm Saying' in a sleek and silky format fit for the dance floor.

Sequel Sound is a recording imprint uniting forward thinking music and visually stimulating design. The roots of the label, have been 25 years in the making-- generating in the ears, brains and sweat of co-founders Josh Mace and Jeff Everett. The specific sound was just a twinkle in the bass, inspired by 80's and early 90's electronica/techno, in the trenches of underground rave parties, live concerts and art shows until 2014. Stimulated by a profusion of creative energy they have collaborated with artists from around The United States to bring experimental art inspired releases challenging today's standard of shiny dance floor hits.
