"One thing I can say with certainty that has informed my identity just as much as music is my love for reading, my bandcamp collection rivalled only by my vast collection of books and comics that take over most corners of my apartment. And just like ambient music has an especially big place in my heart, the same can be said about fantasy novels. 

From my childhood favourite series The Edge Chronicles (the map of which I got tattooed across my chest as an adult) to Ursula K Le Guin’s Earthsea books, to modern masterpieces like Simon Jimenez’s The Spear Cuts Through Water, these books have imprinted themselves on my very being. They imagine worlds of magical possibility, but also don’t shy away from very real and increasingly immediate topics such as war, xenophobia, greed, mans exploitation of the earth, of women, of children, of innocence and all things good. Even in the older classics like Lord of the Rings where the line between good and evil are much more obvious than the grey morality of our world, there exists within much more relatable human stories of friendship, of commitment to those you love and those who will come after, of putting your life on the line for the future prosperity of those you believe should be protected.

I am not ashamed to admit that I try to live my life according to how my favourite characters in fantasy would act. I think there is this idea that reading fantasy should be an escape, but I refute that, much like I disagree that ambient music should be used simply as a balm to block out the world and help us ignore reality. These books and music that we love that imagine a better world make me want to live life in a way where we can make that happen, standing strong with our communities and forever fighting against injustice."

here is a re-record of my 12pm set at big moon 2025. not sure how faithful it is to what i actually played, i didn't really check lol. very proud of this music and very excited to share it with you. 

noon was my absolute 1st choice for set times at this year's BM- for me that's always the *true* peak time of any campout-type rave. day two during the day when everyone is loose and wiggly and strange and anything can happen...... free time, baby. this is an homage to any & all campout day sessions past and future.

really hard to recapture the inherently sloppy goofy dummy nature of the set and setting. but yeah, tried to mix with much feeling and little fuss. made some edits, whatever.

big moon campout 2025 (re-record)

To introduce @demdikestare the project helmed by UK DJs and producers Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker, is to speak about something far beyond music itself.

Their output is a multi-sensory experience that has evolved from shadowy library soundscapes into a pulsing, dystopian electronic presence. Their early releases - “Symbiosis” (2009), “Forest of Evil” (2010), “Liberation Through Hearing” (2010), and “Voices of Dust” (2010) - forged a signature aesthetic built on dense collages of foggy drones, warped field recordings, and fragments of forgotten soundtracks. 

The release delivers 50 minutes of original material, traversing shifting tempos and styles: muted drums, vocal samples, house grooves, ambient zones, 2-step swing, fractured breaks, and techno echoes that feel both archival and futuristic.

To mark the collaboration, The EDWIN Music Channel is proud to present the entire tape as an extended mix voyage.

N°143 - Demdike Stare

One of Melbourne's most longstanding & prolific mainstays for this week's Animix -@pjenne. Host of Passing Notes, on beloved community radio station PBS;  incredibly talented DJ , & co-founder of @companionmelb alongside another favourite, @millu .
 
Penny is an authentic example of what Melbourne and it's community look like.  She's been actively involved in the scene from all corners for a long time now - whether it be headlining parties & major fesivals (locally and abroad),  solo or alongside her DJ sister Millu; or running her beautifully curated weekly radio show which often highlights the incredible plethora of talented local DJs we have here in Australia. Alongisde Millu she also co-runs the increidble local output @companionmelb - which has seen epic releases from local artists, including Acopia, Kita and more.  

When i was first learning to DJ, it was inspiring to see women in the scene like Penny - an intelligent and driven powerhouse with loads of talent & taste to back it up - & most importantly, unashamedly herself.  Penny has a very distinctive style and has been instrumental in paving the way to what is now seen in the current global electronic music community as the "Australian sound" - even more importantly, as an early leading female figure. A local gem!

I was thinking to combine all the range of my musical reach into one fun mix closing the floor of Garage Noord.

𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?
Yea so i have been working in GN as a sound engineer for over 3 years. I started doing live bands on thursdays before doing club nights and I grew up musically by working with various artists from different scenes. I admire the core of different subcultures and i think there is always some attitude or vision that i picked up along the way forming my own musical taste

𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
The idea behind the curation is to bring out my friends that i have worked with to get to know one another. I worked with Ciro for his graduation project called Last Paradise together with 6 other SNDO graduates, touching the theatrical element of what can be music performance. Laura (RRRadiant) used to be my studio mate back at a.round studio with whom i grew very fond of as a person and as a collaborative spirit. She also does the artwork for my Radio TNP series Pseudosonik. Pittori Locali is the band i have been digging a lot ever since we met on Keep Space Fest 2024 in Utrecht, where it showcased the collision of DJ ‘digging’ culture with live improv musicians. And Lars (Jaine) is also one of the most interesting curators at the moment in Amsterdam with his crew Ponte Neuro which just collaborated with Knekelhuis during this year’s ADE at Phonolake which was my ADE highlight. All of these different acts i have never seen together and wanted to bring that spirit in one curation night.

𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂? 𝗔𝗻𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗴𝗶𝗴𝘀, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽?
My most current project is running the studio Scarlab at NDSM Amsterdam. Its a live room and creator/maker hub for people who want to build their own instruments, make music and perform for a small intimate audience that further emphasise collaboration between different artistic disciplines.
