Im Sommer 2015 auf Ibiza fragte Jo.Ke, der in dieser Nacht mit Feathered Sun spielte, @mommusic, ob er „How Strange“ kenne. Luis Couñago Luque, so der bürgerliche Name von MoM, griff zu den Kopfhörern und hörte sich die Nummer an: „Ich war total vom Sound der Flöten begeistert.“ Also nahm er sich der Nummer an, um einen Remix nach seinen Vorstellungen zu basteln. „Ich sprach mit meinem Freund ANuT (@soul-36), und wir begannen, mit dem Track herumzuhantieren." After two highly acclaimed compilations featuring great international artists, the Austrian ‚downtempo’ label Heimlich Musik releases the first official EP by Basel-based Boris Muscheidt alias ĂVEM. The 20-year old newcomer proved his talent as an electronic music producer on his very own label LOKD. Additional releases on Cosmic Awakenings or Casa Caos have been well received within the community. His debut EP on Heimlich Musik – called ‘Nuages’ –  is packed with two originals and four remixes by Bernstein, Oberst & Buchner, Arutani and Dandara. The title track ‘Nuages’ – french for ‘clouds’ – features spoken words by Victor Hugo ‘on vit, on parle’, who is an inspiration for ĂVEM. The speech serves, according to Boris, to show creativity and melancholia at the same time. The deep rolling bassline is accompanied with celestial pads and dark, melancholic melodies. This melodically rich track serves as a powerful soundtrack for rainy autumn days. Vienna based Oberst & Buchner used many elements of the original in their remix. By adding guitars, a 303-like-acid-appreciatorsynth, percussions and pads they found a way to add colour and energy with a fluid, intergalactic mixture of synths and organic parts. Dandara’s version of ‘Nuages’ takes on a deeper but also more minimalistic approach to the original. The drums, percussions and pads are more groove-oriented. Combined with Victor Hugo’s speech it merges to swell in a symphonic ride. ‘Nyx’, named after the Greek goddess of the night, the second original by ĂVEM is even darker. The baseline feels like diving into a deep dark abyss in the ocean. The song gets lightened up by high synth notes flowing with a LFO and percussive tinkles that seem to reflect rays of light. Power and intensity is formed by the suspense of the composition. Bernstein’s interpretation is accelerated by about 10 BPM. The dark atmosphere of the original yields a huge panorama, shimmering synths and delayed percussions, which shine bright like a water surface mirroring sunlight. Twinkling sounds and warm synths create a fresh, vivid feeling. Arutani’s Super Mario remix is a beat-based version mixed with a hammering, yet jumping bassline. The remix is packed with harmonic and dissonant sound effects; one of them is the sound of Super Mario jumping. All in all, the EP offers an interpretation of what a dark autumn or winter night sounds like. It is the perfect soundtrack for this time of the year.

This EP is inspired by the cultural heritage which the Argentines and Chileans seek to perpetuate. Ulises has developed cultural and emotional bonds towards the natives, whose struggles he feels and shares. Struggles for their own traditions, their own lands and their own existence. Thanks to the resistance of cultures like the Mapuche we can now enjoy traditional melodies and instruments, such as kultrungs, charangos and quenas, that Ulises skilfully merges with an electronic timber palette to achieve the deep organic sound that we can appreciate in this EP. 
Uña pays homage to the acclaimed quena player Uña Ramos, from the mountainous Jujuy province. Pewünguen derives from a chant in Mapudungun, the Mapuche language, that celebrates the rebirth of nature in spring. Here, the artist adopts the same chant metaphorically, to wish the rebirth of the Mapuches. 
Musician by formation, Ulises plays guitar, keyboard, and drums. Such multi-instrumental skills provide him with a broad range of sounds to blend and wedge into the electronic beat. Talking about the aesthetic he craves, Ulises stated “I want to have the possibility to choose any timber from any source I feel the music needs. No limits!” …and limitless is his desire to explore the vastness of sounds, to experiment new combinations. 
Besides the original tracks, the EP comprises four gems by Carrot Green, Steffen Kirchoff, Arutani, Coss & Iorie, who remixed Ulises’ productions.

After the debut EP by ĂVEM at the end of last year, the second EP of the Viennese Label Heimlich Musik comes from Beirut-based producer Rabih Rizk. With releases on Wildfang Musik, Lump Records and Magician On Duty, Rabih Rizk already earned reputation within the community. His ‘Sleep’ EP contains two original tracks and two remixes by Landhouse & Raddantze from Karlsruhe and well-known member of Matanza, Rodrigo Gallardo. Both original tracks are strongly driven by emotions reflecting the feeling of solitude. According to the artist, ‘Sleep’ expresses his own personal relationship towards anxiety while ‘Phone Index’ tells a story about being alone somewhere in the middle of the night filled with the emptiness of waiting for a phone call. These melancholic thoughts are expressed through the dark vocals as well as through the rolling basslines and fragile pads you can hear in both original tracks. With their remix, Landhouse & Raddantze delivered a version of ‘Sleep’ that is even more dreamy than the original without losing their individual signature style while focusing on the vocal lines. Well-established artist Rodrigo Gallardo created a powerful banger that seems to be made for the dancefloor by adding flute sounds reflecting the melodies of the original track. While working with rhythmic arpeggio-lines, Gallardo gives his remix extra power through surrounding the melodic parts with strong sub-basses. The mood that was established with the first EP on Heimlich Musik by the end of last year is continued with this EP without losing an individual style when it comes to aesthetics and arrangements of the original tracks and the remixes.

I asked Micha if I could do some sort of remix/interpretation and he luckily sent me the stems of their recordings. I had a lot of stuff to do the last summer, so it took me quite a while to start this remix and get it done. Hope you like it :)
