@kokolja ’s Dreams EP is a bass-heavy, melodic trip through surreal introspection and rave-fueled absurdity. Featuring two originals — the haunting, machine-soul reflection "Dreams" and the chaotic, fever-dream techno of "Raver's Diary" - the release balances emotional depth with twisted humor. Tying it together is a pulsing remix of "Dreams" by Codenzi, reimagining the track for peak-time floors. It’s weird, honest, and made to move you - body and brain.

Herzlich Willkommen zum ersten Tiefcast. Ab heute versorgen wir euch regelmäßig hier auf Soundcloud mit Tiefgang-Sound. Ihr könnt euch monatlich auf neue Sets von verschiedenen Künstler:innen aus der Down- und Midtempo-Szene sowie Beiträge aus unseren Reihen freuen.

Wie seid ihr dazu gekommen, elektronische Musik im Downtempo-/Midtempo-Bereich zu spielen?

Malü: Ich war auf Veranstaltungen und fasziniert davon, dass es bei diesen Sounds nicht um die härtesten Drops geht, sondern dass Spannung aufgebaut und auf gewisse Art “gehalten wird”. Besonders intensiv war dieses Erlebnis bei einem Set von Niju im Peer23. Das ist leider auch das was mir in der „Downtempo/Bounce“-Entwicklung der letzten Jahre komplett fehlt. Vielfalt, Storytelling und Spannung.
Kalypsoul: Ich komme aus der Livemusik. Während der Pandemie fiel alles weg, und ich wollte musikalisch weiter kreativ bleiben. Über die Arbeit in einem Musikhaus habe ich Malü kennengelernt. Es hat sofort Klick gemacht, und unser gemeinsames Projekt war geboren.

Gibt es einen besonderen „Downtempo-Moment“, den ihr mit uns teilen möchtet?

Malü: 
Da gibt’s unzählige! Besonders war mein erster Downtempo Gig zusammen mit Arturo beim Bummelzug in der Villa 2017 in Heidelberg. Außerdem der erste Liveauftritt mit Kalypsoul auf dem Konfusius 2022, aber auch die Gigs auf der Fusion, dem Zugvögel oder den hier veröffentlichten Gig vom Mystic, das war einfach magisch!
Kalypsoul: Ich erinnere mich an unsere erste ‘Live Probe’ unter einer Eisenbahnbrücke in Mannheim. Oder das Live-Set von Niju auf der Fusion 2025. 

Welche Gedanken und Gefühle verbindet ihr mit diesem Gig?

Malü: Ein perfekter Sonntags-Sonnenaufgang, viele grinsende Freunde im Publikum, bester Sound, null Technikstress. Kalypsoul und ich haben uns einfach nur angegrinst, uns aufs Spielen konzentriert, Sekt-Mate getrunken und den Moment gefeiert. Es hat sich danach wie der schönste Live-Gig ever angefühlt, weil alles einfach so gut funktioniert hat.

The likeable and extremely ambitious Jose has already caught our attention in several productions, especially those of the label [MuMa], better known as Mutant Magic. His sound captivates with its lightness (organic textures) and deep groove, as well as sensual melodies. So it came as no surprise to us that we liked the live set he submitted. It really puts you in a good mood and has that certain something in the direction of storytelling. Attached, of course, is our interview.

✔️ What is your musical background?
R//: My musical background started when one of my best friends introduced me to a music academy where he was taking drum lessons. I was 9 years old, and when I heard a guitar class session, I didn’t think twice before asking my father to pay for lessons. Luckily, he agreed. From there, I learned some music theory and then continued mostly in a self-taught way — along with lots of music listening and record collecting. In 2017, I left Colombia and moved to Texas, where I started producing music. Two years later, I moved to Spain and took an Electronic Music Production course at SAE Institute to develop my skills further. Since then, I’ve been practicing and producing constantly. Along the way, I also learned to mix on vinyl and continue building my collection — I love making mixtapes.

✔️ What makes good “afterhour”?
R//: Mostly outdoor spots and daylight, but a good one for me, is when music coordinate and guide easily and successfully the crowd or the people listening to it at the moment, sounds generic, but when the vibe is subtle people just flow with the atmosphere generated by the music that is playing, also the sun will be doing a lot of work :D but if not sunny or outdoor music will need to be accurate indeed.

✔️ Do you have any thoughts you would like to share about your set?
R//: I feel it is very diverse and has very different moments but it’s changing by a very subtle evolving atmosphere which makes it enjoyable to listen to. Also most of the set 70% it’s music that hasn’t be released, I always try to come up with something new to every new gig I have, I like to feel inspired by the place where, I will play and try to create something according to that visualization, maybe not the whole live but a couple of tracks or so.

✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded?
R//: It was really interesting how people react to it, it was early noon so, some people were waking up, other were just enjoying after hours, so it may come in a very lucky time for me, they were relaxing and enjoying the vibes of it, some parts more intense than others but in general I felt it as a completely positive reaction, the day was beautiful 15h sun was shining, incredible 28 degrees weather, feeling grateful :)
