Marking the 6th release for the Mental Health Charity label is a 4-tracker that passes all proceeds on to Young Minds. On the A-side is Nottingham sprung 'Nail' - with 2 hazy summer-ready House cuts. 'Day After' opens the record with a warm and inviting bassline amidst subtle undertones of a late 90's deep house record from the east coast. Whilst 'Pad On', although on a similar tip - makes generous use of rolling yet smoothly-crashing percussion, flowing effortlessly over beautifully crafted pads that pay testament to the track's name. On the outside of the flip is a track that came about following an impromptu studio meeting one evening by Trixie, Connor Male and Thoma Bulwer - a cut filled full of emotion and chord-laden euphoria. To complete the record, a solo effort by Trixie - working fast paced drums and a menacing bassline that would carry any peak-time dancefloor well into the night.

Serenity is a mental health charity label that is now back with more sonic gold, this time in the form of a reissue of Marco Bernardi aka Octogen's 'The Journeyman' from 2008 on Soma Recordings. It is an immersive, emotive sound with lush and ethereal pads and a moody bassline that keeps you locked. The B-side offers two original tracks from Bernardi 'Travelling to the Sun' is one to hypnotise floors with its hypnotic chimes and raw drums, while 'Little Tiny Crickets' delivers a fast-paced IDM twist with some killer synth work. As always, proceeds go to charity this time Papyrus UK who support youth suicide prevention and MusicSpace.

Up next for the mental health charity label are 4 tracks dedicated to Mind. The VA pays homage to early 2000s nostalgia - with two Garage/Breaks cuts from Harry Wills & Rob Amboule respectively. The two of them alongside Alec Falconer make up 'Phone Traxx', a highly-regarded UKG outfit. Up first is '6 for 5 and feeling fresh', a track that's already been doing the rounds on dancefloors - idyllic for that peak-time club setting. Following that on the A2 is 'Mindright', which contrasts a noteworthy alternative - something you could expect any time, any place, anywhere. On the flip, is a moody remix from Rob - with a bassline that'll wobble any wall in the country. And last but not least, 'Harry's toasty mix', which more than aptly wraps up a release which is arguably the label's best yet. One not to miss.

Many an interchange was had about similar tastes in records and a true understanding for the art of creating journeys in sets when you're playing one record after another.

And it's clear that wasn't just all fezzie talk... this hour long excursion takes you through the dulcet tones of well pieced together minimal numbers, before smoothly taking you into something all together completely & beautifully different. For the next plunge into our label mix series it's the one and only Nina Patrice. If you've been to any of our parties in the last 12 months, you'll have heard this wee magician at some point. Fastly-becoming our most regular resident and certainly someone who's very dear to the label. 

This hour long excursion shows exactly why we love her - a tendency to effortlessley lean into the darker side of minimal whilst also continually drawing on influences from her wider musical interests. Nina's truly someone who understands the art of creating a journey...

This 2 hour journey cast us straight back to that Neotropiq NYD party which lay just south of the river - where we heard him play track for track with SER006 contributor 'Trixie'. That morning really was one for the books... and this mix more than pays testament to that - with it's effortless weaving through melodic house records, deeply rooted UK-inspired breaks and deeper cuts reminiscent of that late 90s Chicago sound.

‘The mental health charity label returns with a stunning re-issue of Octogen’s release on Soma Recordings - a highly revered Scottish label founded in 1991 by none other than Dave Clarke and Slam. Originally released in 2008, its idiosyncratic spaced pads work effortlessly over a moody yet transcending bassline. The 7 minute sonic trip stands as a true testament to it’s track name ‘The Journeyman’ and despite being over 17 years old - it truly is one of those pieces of music which brings a whole new meaning to the term “timeless”. The B side features two original cuts from the actual man behind the mysterious Octogen alias, making this release a beautiful comparison between old and new as you flip the record over. Marco Bernardi’s ‘Travelling to the Sun’ underpins Serenity’s sound as an emotive house/techno label, with its gentle yet almost hypnotic chimes that layer neatly over raw and stripped back drums. Whilst ‘Little Tiny Crickets’ in contrast offers up the label’s usual B2 plot twist, with the track leaning more into the realms of IDM. Fast-paced in-your-face drums are met with squelchy raw synth work - perfectly showcasing Marco as a producer who’s really on another level. All proceeds of SER007 will be donated to Papyrus UK - a charity specialising in youth suicide prevention and MusicSpace.’

Serenity Records is a new not-for-profit record label, aimed at raising essential awareness on the growing epidemic of mental health within the music industry, whilst also donating all proceeds of its project to various mental health charities. 

One of the key features of the project is to allow the artists commissioned for each EP to have the opportunity to select the particular charity that their work will support. So for 001, John Shima & Mihail P's EP will support the work of Music Minds Matter - a charity unquestionably leading the way in making a difference to mental health issues in the music industry. 

The inaugural EP beautifully intertwines between floaty synth work and hypnotic percussion - adequately serving its purpose as a resource for music lovers looking to seek refuge away from whatever problems they may face.
