The 33rd release from the Kartaskvazhin label introduces a new album by Piam, the duo of Vlad Dobrovolski and Ilya Sadovsky, masters of organic electronic music from Moscow and Kaluga. Both have long been releasing successful solo records, collaborating on various projects, and performing as part of the quartet Kurvenschreiber.

The Longest Day takes its name from the longest day in The Iliad. Though recorded as a duo, Vlad and Ilya introduce a third, hidden voice through the use of field recordings captured between 2022 and 2023 in India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, and Bali. The hum of engines, the drone of nighttime cities, and the bellowing of a massive ox blend with both technological and natural sounds. Echoes, reverberations, and waves from Vlad and Ilya’s synthesizers do more than complement the collected material. They merge into a single sonic canvas, filled with life from different sides of memory, especially intriguing on deeper listening.

Хроника мятежного сада w/ Piam @ KURS radio 13.04.25

The 24th "Радиант" for RS was recorded by Artem Timofeev — founder of the Картаскважин label (https://soundcloud.com/kartaskvazhin), collector, tape DJ, and promoter of cassette culture.

At the core of the mix is a selection of cassette releases from Russian labels, compiled by Artem toward the end of 2024. He supplemented the selection with works by Russian (or Russia-affiliated) artists released on international platforms. In result we have sort of snapshot of experimental music genres whose artists often favor releasing their work on tape.

According to the author, in conditions where streaming services dominate over other music listening means, cassettes offer a way to go beyond musical industry and discover an amazingly diverse slice of culture with a extensive spectrum of sound forms and aspects of visual decoration.

Радиант #24 - Скважин

This mix consists of unreleased, non-public sound materials collected around the Kartaskvazhin label. All these materials can be categorized into two groups. The first group consists of the so-called Easter eggs - hidden and unmentioned recordings (bonus tracks and non-normalized phonograms), usually placed at the end of the cassette side of some of the label's releases. The second group are tracks from the label's upcoming and undetermined releases - demos, drafts and pre-releases. In addition, tracks from the releases of the anonymous LaaXaa series were used. And it was also impossible not to include in the mix fragments of digitization of the 36th copy [karsk_24]: Reather Weport - MM, where the idea of the release is that each subsequent copy of the tape is made from the previous one, thus accumulating sound artifacts (defects) of the physical medium. This tape opens and closes the mix.
Картаскважин (Well Map) - Kartaskvazhin is a cassette label started in St. Petersburg in 2018 and acts like a radar detecting abnormal seals in the subcultural folds of Russia.
