London record shop and label Phonica Records launches new sub label Phonica AM. Curated by staff member and DJ Luther Vine, the label will provide a home for a new take on 90's inspired ‘proper’ tech house, and music within this ball park. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

To kick start this new label, Luther approached the mysterious duo Voodoos and Taboos to release 'If We Were' EP. So far, the two producers have only released EPs and LPs on their own record label Voodoos And Taboos Records, and made few appearances on compilations. We don't know a lot about them - not even their face - but the music speak for itself. "I was blown away by the music after discovering their production through stocking their first two releases," said Luther. Indeed, it is not until he heard their tunes that he took the decision to start a new Phonica imprint. "With all due respect to some of the music being released at the moment, there seems to be an over saturation with this rehashed 90s Prog House resurgence... And it was very refreshing to hear and be able to release this rather original EP from Voodoos and Taboos." Vatos Locos' spearhead David Gtronic is on the field presenting the second installment of a three-part work of the entitled 'Seclusion' LP. This 4-tracker release follows David's collaborations with frequent studio partners Guti and David Berrie and consolidates ulteriorly his excellent shape at the moment by providing some extra dancefloor quality material. Opener 'Last Day In Moscow' runs through fast-skipping hats and a gnarly bassline, winding among selfless vocal chops and twisted textures, giving way to the equally tight 'Pupsik' to shine with its tense and gloomy atmospheres that rise above the underneath. On the remix duties, the veteran Boris Werner turns 'Pupsik' into a deadly percussive beast based on a disruptive low-end area and sizzling drums, with David and Kirik joining forces to close the EP in style with the uplifting and dreamy Dub Mix of 'Rathaus'.

Lacking no celerity in its approach to dancefloor traction, the second incursion on STRCTR from Paris-based rising talent Vitess is primed to slap a smile on the face of 90s breaks, electroid techno dashers and pumped-up trance lovers. Following up to releases on Happiness Therapy, Pulse Msc and Chat Noir Tools, Vitess is bound to break the sound barrier with “Splitter EP” - a no-frills four-tracker featuring two originals + two remixes designed to bulldoze its way onto upper spheres of consciousness with absolute panache and determination.

First in line, “Highway” rocks the A-side with a potent engineering of acid squelch, sun-baked dub textures and a free-spinning battery of sci-fi-informed FX to top it all off on a weird but funky note. Adding his deep, vibey spin to the original, Cologne’s DJOKO goes all in on the faux-organic, streamlined envelopes and laces it with more of a Chicago-brewed shuffle.

Flip sides and here is “Tunnel Phase”, a verbed (and flanged)-out slice of atmospheric tech meets Goa trance, tailored to whip up a frenzy amongst moon howlers and ravers. Rounding off the trip, French vibist Janeret tweaks the tune into a proper deep-diving weapon for when the temperature cranks up a notch and all the bodies in the club need is a good dip into an infinity pool of choice liquid dub.
