Tribute mix celebrating Pete Rock & CL Smooth's masterpiece 'The Main Ingredient', which turned 30 recently.
'Mecca & The Soul Brother' is the more iconic/important album, but Main Ingredient slowly became my favorite over the years.....for a lot of the same reasons I lean to ATCQ's Midnight Marauders over Low End Theory.
Pete's production went from a harder/dusty sound on MATSB, to a warm/melodic vibe on TMI.  The samples Pete chose hit your soul in that sweet spot:  from Cannonball Adderley on 'In The House', to George Benson on 'I Get Physical' + 'In The Flesh', to Roy Ayers on 'Searching'....masterful. La ciudad suena a naranjas y camotes, a radios transistores en camiones, al perifoneo de anuncios y pregones que nos brinda identidad, al gas y los tamales con voz aguda y nasal, al rítmico claqueo de famélicas criaturas tras las riendas que están cargando basura o el fierro viejo que venda.
 
Esta ciudad Huele a un botánico terreno, huele Buganvilias, Laureles de Indias, Ficus, Arces, Truenos, a orina bajo el puente, Jacarandas que enaltecen el camino de la gente, huele a oleadas de miseria, misera autoconstrucción pero abdicamos pues la amamos. Nuestra contaminación.

Rimando con Caballeros del Plan G, actuando en vivo con Control Machete o remezclando artistas de la talla de Fabulosos Cadillacs como parte de Sonidero Nacional, Serko Fu se ha distinguido por su habilidad detrás del micrófono y su capacidad para fluir sobre los breaks mas clásicos o experimentar sobre los riddims más osados sin olvidar nunca el mensaje que se transmite.
Serko Fu ha reventando desde los escenarios más underground hasta los festivales masivos de más importancia en el continente, teniendo la bendición de alternar con grandes amigos y artistas de talla mundial, desde Manu Chao a Cypress Hill ó de Los Cadetes de Linares a Wyclef Jean, realizando giras y presentaciones por países como México, Estados Unidos, Guatemala, Cuba, Colombia, Panama, Perú, República Dominicana, participando en festivales como el Vive Latino (México), Festival Centro (Bogotá), Celebrate Brooklyn (Nueva York), Cumbre Tajín (Veracruz), Bumbershoot (Seattle), Forum Mundial de las Culturas (Monterrey) entre otros.

Actualmente Serko Fuentes se encuentra preparando lo que será su tan esperado álbum debut en solitario y a raíz de la problemática que se vive actualmente en México y gran parte de Latinoamérica ha desarrollado un proyecto donde utiliza el Hip Hop como una herramienta cultural de inclusión, ofreciendo una solución para jóvenes que se enfrentan a un entorno violento en su comunidad, acercándolos a actividades productivas y de mayor significado para su desarrollo.
