I've been feeling extremely depressed recently. Well, not me, my Ego, mostly. I spend hours fighting my Ego, trying to come to a peace, trying to find some middle ground between me and the enemy that lurks within my mind. I can not run, I can not hide, and he is always there, ready to pounce at any given moment. I refuse to crawl back into my hole that I once called home in the charcoal and ashes of my soul. Many battles have been lost, but the war has just begun.

NME N ME

Music. It's the thing that has kept me alive and kicking this long, and for more days to come. I have found comfort in the melodies and love in the culture. With this new song, I wanted to exemplify what I love about the music scene, and I just want to share this precious love with you.

If Battlegrounds is the song that ties the album together, Broken Wings is the bow on top. Nicole Barker brings us a sense of looking back at the journey we have just come back from. She elaborates on the numbness, but wholeness of being broken in front of others. Brian Christensen then pulls through with a chorus alongside him bringing the song to a climax. Sometimes we all feel a little broken and just need a higher power to come to us and lift us back up to where we know we need to be.

Broken Wings

As an ambient-electro producer, I love sound design. I love manipulating sounds to make different sounds, having the listeners ears and eyes dart around looking for and following the sounds. Battlegrounds was my endeavor into making a warlike track of me tearing myself up as a savage to build myself back up even stronger than I had been before. The synths mold into each other, and the drums flow through the foreground, giving the listener a sense of constant motion and progress in this track. It all builds to a climax containing all previous elements, as well as a chorus-ed sitar, giving the listener melodies and countermelodies to dance upon until the final drop with electric guitar blends with it all, and the album has come fill circle back to the beginning, overlooking the sea as the sun sets.

Battlegrounds

Hi, I’m Sero[Tone]in, and I’m an alcoholic. Not only that, but a poly-addict. If there are 2 things I love in this world, it’s love, itself, and getting f’d up on whatever I had. This song is a mirror image, singing about not only my last drink before a relapse 9 months later, but also a last night with the feelings I had for the girl in the previous 2 tracks. This song had the first verse done, and I was thinking about rapping over the second verse, when I had sent it to a friend Nicole Barker. She told me she had wanted to write on the track and that she had something in mind for the lyrics. I was skeptical at first, since it was MY track about MY addictions, but the amount of passion in her words, and the words she sings fall no less of exceptional in showing exactly how I feel about these situations. The song then builds to a climax where a guitar comes blaring out of the background (Thaaaaaank you for the amazing takes Peter Stone) and leads the listener to the end of the track and the beginning of Battlegrounds.

Last Drink In The City

I’ve been petty before, and I’m not proud of it. This song is about how I had promised that girl in Land Sea Divide that I’d take her to get her first tattoo. When getting tatted I was making music on my laptop, and had noticed there were bruises on her neck. What caused them didn’t matter to me, my thoughts instantly went to “She doesn’t appreciate me for how much I put in, but holds someone else closer than I could ever dream to get.” (Stupid, I know). I had basically written the whole track at the parlor, and when I got home, lyrics flew into my head, and the little emo kid inside of me broke out the guitar, played a few power chords, and got angsty with the lyrics. I’m sure the rest of this track speaks for itself.

Bruised Roses

This song is about drugs. LSD to be exact, and an experience I had with a friend of mine who I had developed feelings for (I actually wrote my previous album “Where Words Leave Off” about her.). Tripping with her on the beach made me realize that I’ve been continuing to either drown in the thought of love, or been barren for months, not knowing that I just need to find that Land Sea Divide once again. The song then fades out into the next day

Land Sea Divide

Once finally realizing that I needed to turn inward for my search of happiness, I begun writing this track. I wanted to make something that would appeal to what I wanted to make originally, which was electro-ambient music. I find the synths help lead the listeners’ thoughts around their minds, and maybe explore places they haven’t in quite some time. I used many of the same production techniques in this track as I did with Malibu Hillside. This track for me is a journey back into myself as a person as well as a producer. When the song climaxes, I am finally at peace with myself and have found fullness.

Unlimited Consciousness

I actually wrote this track 4 years ago. I felt it had potential, but I wasn’t skilled in the execution of expressing it in a way I can today. I revisited Hearts of Fire after writing Alchemy. Hearts of Fire was originally written after the relationship of Alchemy was over, so I feel it really brings the listener through every emotion I was going through at the time. Looking back it was a beautiful journey and I should have learned to put my hands up and enjoy the ride as I do now assembling the album.

Hearts Of Fire

This song really hits home for me. There is this girl I have always been infatuated with, no matter what circumstances we seem to find ourselves in. Her favorite quote was “Stay Golden.” This quote in the movie was impactful as it told the main character to still be and see the good in the world no matter how long they are devoid of the light. I still write about her, and I’m not sure if she knows I still do, but I try to remain subtle with the titles having to pertain to gold in some way, thus, me carrying on the golden thoughts of the past. Alchemy tried to turn lead into gold, as it seems I continue to do with these songs in hope for a brighter, more golden future.

Alchemy

This song leads the album into an ambience of panned guitars, shifting reverbs, and a solid bass to drive you through the sunset scene. A sense of acceptance, welcoming, and anticipation begin to overtake the listener. The guitar winds through the headphones, as the roads that line the hillsides of Malibu. The drums then explode in a reverb, almost as if looking over the hillsides to the sea, watching the sun dip into the Pacific. The drums come back in with a solid bass that holds you while the guitars swiftly dance around your ears, wailing out the calls from the hills. We are then led back down to the city.

Sero[Tone]in is not just an exemplification of who I am as an artist. It’s also the chemical that is necessary for happiness. I always strive to express the release and depletion of the molecule in my music. I want to take you through stories that not only I have experienced, but stories that also make you question life and the way that you live now. I’ve always been a strong believer that if you send a positive ripple out into the world, it will continue to flow throughout society. I want to spread the happiness that I have received from so many days spent alone in my room making music. 
That is what I do this for. This is not only for me, but for the untapped potential in all of us. I want people to realize who they are and what they are capable of. Music is my savior and has driven me to what I love today.
