Serotoninusa is proud to present a 40 minute studio megamix of new and classic electro by the adventurous turntablist trio Elektro Flexx: DJ Quest, DJ 2 Fresh, and Kid Ginseng. This mix is paired with the equally adventurous video art of Liz Wendelbo. 

DJ Quest, AKA Questosahn, is a pioneer in Bay Area turntablism,  the originator of the widely adopted “Hamster Style”  scratching technique, and co-creator of the first ever battle break record, "Hamster Breaks" (1992). He is also the founder of Jazz/Hip-Hop trio LiveHuman, a group known for its improvisational use of the turntable as an instrument.

DJ 2Fresh began flexing his quickmixing skills at Bay Area house parties, radio stations and major venues in 1985, and by the late 90’s he achieved national, international, and major label success. In (year) he joined forces with DJ Quest as "Mission Cartel" on a series of remixes and vinyl "Skipless-Combo" DJ tool battle records.

Bahamian-born DJ Kid Gensing has been mixing and scratching since 1997. He runs the critically acclaimed Kraftjerkz label, has released with Lost Soul Enterprises, Basement Floor, Hip Hop Slam, and La La Land, and has collaborated with the likes of DJ Qbert, Shortkut, and Detroit technobass pioneer DJ Di'jital. In 1999 he produced an electrofunk megamix cassette distributed by Turntablelab and the famous Fat Beats NYC. He is also touring turntablist for legendary funk group, Tom Tom Club .

Synapse “Scientism EP”  is an overview of the last 20 years of regress in modern culture. The erosion of democratic values, the abuse of science, the distortion and manipulation of facts and the deliberate seeds of discord sown by the powerful to create schism in the fabric of society; enabling the few to exercise control over the many. All that and funk... good old American Electronic New York City Funk.

“Schismsim” could easily have been written to describe the the present state of the body politic, but it was produced over a decade before. How long and slow the decline of civilization, how glitched out and disjointed it sounds. You can listen day and night but must choose left or right. 

“Facts” are what we fight over to the detriment of truth. How can “facts” be a-political when so many powerful interests are paying to manufacture them? Synapse paid with human efforts to produce this lament for humanity that is lost in an ocean of disinformation. It has a pretty melody though…

The system is “Stealing Science” to further the agendas of our overlords. It’s also a very profitable endeavor as our economy becomes more dependent on automation and artificial intelligence.  Synapse used some old fashioned human intelligence to compose this suspense filled film noir rocker. 

“Pluralism” regrets the demise of our open and democratic society from the perspective of the frog left in the stove top pot of now boiling water. May at least in our last moments of consciousness we have a cosmic rocker with which to comprehend the folly of our plight. Synapse provides the funk for our requiem.

Synapse “Scientism EP” is on the dark side with glimpses of light; it’s on the lighter side of darkness; its on the fun side of funk. Use their science to further a funkier agenda and get up on the one truth of our oneness.

Kim Cosmik started as a DJ for festival sound systems Sprial Tribe and Bedlam, playing at some of the most amazing free parties all over the U.K and europe. Her first singles were released though her own label Void Records along with fellow band member Blaze and in partnership with Hotmix / Bunker records in Holland. Void was later signed to Matador EMI and also collaborated with Dj Damage and Dylan at Spectrum Audio (drum and bass projects). Kim Cosmik has played with many amazing artists such as Lory D, Leo Anibaldi, Aztek, Colin Dale, Jumping Jack Frost, Grant Rephlex, Serge Clone, Aleksi Perala, Andy Turner and ADJ. She also played at the ledgendary Knowledge club at S.W.1 London. Kim Cosmik is now a resident of The Dodo Club and Xcero along with her own event, Hybrid launched last summer 2019.
Kim Cosmik is currently releasing music through her own label Cybersoul on Bandcamp as well as with a variety of labels such as Studio Rockers, Crobot Music, Touched Music, Earthlings, Urban Distotions and Section 27.

Heckadecimal has been making hardware-driven psychedelic electronic music since 2000, and more recently has been exploring video art the past few years.
There have been many collaborations—most notably with Naughty Wood as The Worm, and helping run Always Human Tapes. 
With recent releases on Kajunga, Great Circles, and Electric Music Foundation, and several self-released albums on bandcamp earlier this year, there's no sign of slowing down.

Born in the USA but based in South Holland, Deirdre Direktor has merged the sounds of her diverse influences in her mixes, from the Florida electro-bass of her youth to Detroit techno/ electro, NY leftfield cheekiness and West Coast Holland electro/techno. At any rate, the motive is always a musical journey. And, her cross-genre sets and moody soundscapes have put her on line-ups alongside Solid Blake, Sync24, The Horrorist, Egyptian Lover, JASSS, etc. Tune in!

Neurotransmitters 5: Deirdre Direktor

Brooklyn based techno producer and Snazzy Fx boss. Much of the hardware Dan uses in his productions and live sets was designed and built by him. His focus as an artist is on electronic music as a vehicle for achieving transcendent states. This comes out in his sets as a respect for both the funky and hypnotic aspects of dance music. As a DJ and live act, Dan has performed throughout Europe and is a regular fixture in NYC.

Dan also runs Snazzy FX, a relatively “out-there” synthesizer and effects
company established in 2009. He uses a lot of his own gear in this performance!

Recently Dan has released some serious techno on Jacktone, трип and Schmer.Look for his split EP with Jasen Loveland out on Schmer soon.

Devil Girl (Minneapolis, MN) spent the 1990’s playing techno at underground warehouse parties all over the US and Canada. Since she returned to DJing in 2016, she’s started two podcasts, Devil Cake Techno on Fnoob Techno radio, and Android Assassins on Threads Radio international stream. Her style is wide-ranging, from hard, dark, off-kilter and industrial techno mixed with Chicago and Detroit classics to full-on techno bass and electro sets.

Neurotransmitters 7: Devil Girl

New sound has made an impression on the techno scene with strong traction growing internationally. Since relocating to Berlin a few years back, he has pushed the envelope of conventional electronic music by drawing on youthful obsessions with Miami bass, Ghetto-tech and UK Rave culture, and cross pollenating these genres creating a new futuristic branch of bass music that is all his own.

It is plain to see why Textasy is currently sitting atop an enigmatic pedestal and receiving huge praise for his explosive productions and gut-busting live experience. His deep appreciation of dance music combined with a necessity for raw and powerful beats aiming straight for the jugular makes his live sets incomparable to fellow DJs. For those tired of the commerciality that has become techno, Evans’ hybrid material is the energetic sound of the future.
 
A flurry of EPs released on E-Beamz, Craigie Knowes and Natural Sciences pays homage to his versatility of mixes show casing his talent in creating an easy fluidity between genres while simultaneously redefining them at the same time. Further evidence of his extensive creativity; Textasy also runs his label FTP (FreiTanzPlatten), a label which has developed a cult following since the few years of its inception, whose sound of production and style of mixing has proliferated across the club spectrum. Through which his ‘no genre restrictions’ policy also reverberates the rarely trodden path of what is considered the ‘purist ghettotech’ route, all whilst surfing the wave of breakneck electro championed by the likes of DJ Stingray, Nina Kravitz and many others adopting his new sound into current mixes.

His unique soundtrack is one that has him currently placed as one of the finest recent hardcore producers. With his brave sound challenging current trends, he is charting a course through previously unexplored territory whilst simultaneously deprogramming culture and creating a foothold in the industry with fan base destined to grow and thrive
