Val#B comes from a family of musicians. It is quite naturally that he fell from an early age in music. At the age of 17, after 10 years of piano and 3 years of guitar, he gave up his instruments a bit to buy a pair of Technics SL1210 Mk2 turntables which he hasn't left for more than 18 years.

Collector of vinyl of all kinds (funk, classic, 70's rock, techno, house...) and fan of electronic music, he distilled his records, during his student period, in several events in Belgium (24h Vélo de Louvain-la-Neuve, Fête de la musique, Day2night festival) and in various clubs and bars in the Mons region (Cocoon, Mosa...).

Eclectic in his musical tastes, Valentin takes you into his musical universe ranging from deep house - funky house to Detroit techno through the coldness of dark techno without forgetting a touch of German techno...

Nathan Ghigny is an electronic music producer who has been exploring the genre from an early age. His initial introduction to the electronic music universe came through Laurent Garnier's show "It Is What It Is" on Pure FM, where he was immediately captivated by the energetic beats spanning Drum&Bass, Hip-hop, and Techno.

As time went on, he began composing his own tracks, delving into the realms of melodic house and techno. In 2022, he released his debut single "Echos" and has no intention of slowing down. He relentlessly seeks to push the boundaries of his creativity and explore new sounds.

Not limited to production alone, Nathan Ghigny plays sets in styles ranging from house to deep techno, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in his celestial and bucolic musical universe.

TF #081: Yuka [Fullpanda Records I Semantica] - Moscow

Yuka is a female DJ now based in Moscow (where she has lived since 1998), but who began her career in distant Bratsk, Siberia. The town - a local industrial center - is probably more famous for what it dumps than what it makes; in the recent past it was listed as one of the thirty most polluted cities in the world. It wouldn't take much persuasion for someone to move on... Yuka's preparation for a shift to the capital's nightclubs was lengthy, however, since music had played an important role in her life since the age of 6.

Over time, her passions moved in the direction of painting, sculpture, and design - activities she continues to this day. That initial school-day enthusiasm at the piano would eventually win out, though, and dictate her choice of higher education. Her musical training thus led to a degree from the Irkutsk Arts Institute, whee she no doubt studied under her real name, Irina Solobutova.

Now that she's fully ensconced in Moscow, her music appears regularly through the outlets of four labels: Fullpanda, Semantica, Silent Season, Pro-Tez. She is a resident of Fullpanda label parties named ALL YOU NEED IS EARS.

"All musicians can be compared to bird-catchers, especially those hunters who'd go looking for songbirds. Some of them would search for a particular type: a nightingale or a lark, perhaps. Others, conversely, would hunt nothing but exotic birds. Once they were caught, the birds would be kept in cages made from sheet music or boxes cut from concert programmes." Yuka.

OMBRA INTL Label Showcase - Colossio(Beirut Fundraiser)

Release twenty-five on Manjumasi comes from intriguing Swedish producer Karl David Ola Sabel, aka Birds ov Paradise. A master of darkly shining brilliance, his work is at once deep and murky, yet textured and detailed. Originally released as a vinyl exclusive in 2020, the Köpp EP now comes out of lockdown to see a digital release with two additional tracks.

He title track Köpp is an insistent and slowly building journey. Shimmering metallic synth tones float over a staccato bassline that develops powerful energy throughout the track’s crescendo. Bosse kicks off with a hard-hitting broken-beat groove that is punctuated by potent bass hits. Up top, space is created by a wafting layer of haunting and ethereal atmospherics. Next up is Gubben, with some of the darkest sounds on the EP set amidst an energy that manages to simultaneously feel both sinister and playful. Reversed bass tones and punchy percussion set the mood, making way for the track’s incredible and eerie vocal elements. Rounding out the digital release, Barbro is another fantastic piece of musical hypnosis, and Majken closes the EP with deep bass hits and glittering synth tones.

First of all, the discoveries bring together our selection of EP and LP reviews, growing and recognized labels, record stores always ready to unearth nuggets for our pleasure, festivals & clubs with eclectic posters, articles around vinyl as a mythical object, the history of electronic culture, cutting-edge literature as well as party guides and diaries.

Then, the meetings revolve around written or filmed interviews. We are truly going to meet the key players who bring electronic culture to life: DJs, producers, label owners, event organizers, promoters and even volunteers without whom many events would probably not be conceivable.
