On June 10th, 2016, clothing company Claymore Minds invited Aloha Got Soul to spin records for the launch party of their "Heavy Mellow" T-shirt series, hosted at About The Goods in Honolulu.

We jumped at the opportunity, embracing the theme "Heavy Mellow" to curate a unique selection that showcases the seriously sublime soundscape of Hawaii's musical palette: new age and folk from the 1980s; psych from the 1970s; hip hop from the 1990s and 2000s; funk and soul from the 1970s. It's all here.

Bristol-based producer Admin (@adminuk) has rapidly cultivated a discography of next-level, eccentric sample-based productions over the past few years. The sources for these productions are largely sweet, dusty rare grooves from jazz, soul and disco cuts. After some early work with Futureboogie, Admin had a bomb run in 2015 and 2016, dropping highly acclaimed EPs on Boogie Cafe, Sleazy Beats, Omena Record  and Kolour LTD in addition to contributing two different tracks to Bristol label Banoffee Pies' highly sought-after Limited Series. Perhaps the most unique aspect of his run is the implicit patience and quality control involved. Admin does not just crank out whatver's clever, but rather maintains a steady but selective release pace. 2017 seeks to continue this run for the Bristol man, and he's started things off with a soon-to be-released remix of Chezz' "Bossa" for Boogie Cafe and has another dope remix in the pocket for a certain Secret label (I can't say much more than that).

Aside from production, Admin is also a regular figure in the Bristol scene via his party Slix Disco, which has played host to such names as Marcel Vogel, Mister Saturday Night, The Revenge, Mark Grusane and Eddie C.

Sascha Ciminiera is a familiar face from Footjob, member of the label's own Supergroup "Pallaspeople" and also famous for his tasty Bolognese sauce. With "Lights" he created a dreamy balearic tune that found its way into Gerd Janson’s Groove Podcast. As a consequence, Janson and his partner in crime Phillip Lauer AKA Tuff City Kids played around with the 808 and turned it to a great dancefloor version. Phonk D completed the jubilee release with a classic House rework and on top, the Tuff City Kids Remix is added as a dub version.

London based edits label, Moton Records, has carefully spent the last 20 years churning out great edits thanks to label bosses Darren House, aka Diesel, and Dave Jarvis. For their first release of 2018, MOTON puts together three tracks carefully selected and edited by Love Vinyl's Jake Holloway and co-produced by Dave Jarvis. In addition to co-owning the store’s second hand department, Jake is also a graphic designer working for one of the world's most prestigious labels, BBE (Barely Breaking Even). As a purveyor of quality vinyl and a regular DJ in the London scene, who better than Jake to reimagine a few under the radar gems.

Premiere: SofaTalk - The Hope Suite [Escapade Recordings]

DJ Nature follows up 2018’s ‘Ultimate Delusion’ EP with another set of pure heaters for Futureboogie.  

The Bristol born DJ and producer, also known to many as Nature Boy, comes with an exemplary track record, but that’s to be expected from one of the scene’s early pioneers.  Releases for Golf Channel Recordings, Jazzy Sport and Ruff Disco Records are considered true classics, and rightly so!

Breezy MPC house jams of the highest quality, ‘Flutter’ manages to fuse David Lynch style pads and earthy vocals with a marching rhythm, whilst ‘A Moment’ gets cosmically charged with a spiralling modular lick over a chugging guitar hook and spacey chords.

NB’s Mix of Siliconada goes straight for the jugular, with looping disco rhythms and off kilter jazz licks, whilst the Original Version lays heavy and disorientating synth work down for a killer techno injection.

As always, DJ Nature delivers a unique and distinctive sound that is often imitated but never bettered!
